Servicing a 2002 STI
My car has done almost 48k miles. Before I bought it at 41k miles, it had the big 50k service done on it because it had reached 5 years.
Ive covered 7k miles since and I wanted to get it serviced again. Its had an oil change in between, but no service.
I phone the main dealer, he wants £525 for the 60k service!!! Is this really necessary? He said the following would be done:
Spark Plugs
air, oil and fuel filters
sump gaskets
engine, gearbox, brake, diff and antifreeze fluids.
This seems like quite a lot for a service when the cars just done 7k miles since the last one. Im going to phone Subaru4U later to get a price from them, but my main question was, is the 60k service necessary when its done so few miles since the last service?

Its a 6 year service so yes, its needed, gearbox oil is every 2 years, plugs every 3 years, you should have had the cambelt done in the last service so thats ok but its about 5 or 6 hours worth of labour on there.

I think I would rather get a basic service and knock some money off the price rather than pay out that much. Then again it might be 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other. Im certainly not paying £525.
Well, Im selling it, but I would never sell it without it being in good order. What I meant was, just get a normal service, and knock some money off the price because it requires the additional servicing. Subaru4U is based in Newbury, is that where youre thinking of? Im trying to phone them but they are engaged at the moment.
Edit - Just phoned them, £370 in VAT. Will book it in for next week.

Sorry, but £525 for changing oil, plugs and filters is plain day light robbery!! Litchfield are £380 for the same service, and that's no where near what I paid for mine. It beggars belief that some people equate cost with the quality of service you get, his car aint gonna explode if it costs £155 less!^^

£525 is too high - avoid the main dealers and go to Len at Subaru4You in Newbury (saw you were in Berkshire)... he did my major service which included all that plus the biggie - cambelt and tensioners - for about the same a year ago. Few months ago he did my 15k interim service for a trifiling £130. Len and Mark know their Scoobs like the backs of their hands - a big thumbs up.

I have booked it in with Subaru4U for monday at the cost of £370 all in, which Im happy about. No point going to a main dealer as its out of warranty, I would rather take it to someone like S4U because they are rated so highly, they probably know theyre way round a scoob much better than most mechanics.
