any reccomendations????

my car sits on the drive and is always getting covered in bird poo etc be nice to clean it for a change and it still be clean a week later

 

good post, slightly different problem for me, mine is kept in a garage and no matter how clean it is when it is put away, it is always dusty and dirty when i get the car out again, soi was looking for somewhere that does car covers that would fit, mine is a wagon.

i bought mine from a company called vertar very good imo think the web site is UK Car Care and Car Accessories iv got the maypole breathable waterproof , cost me 70 quid

 

is that a universal cover or a more 'tailored' fit???
have heard of some covers that are bit more model specific i.e. fitted for a vers5 spoiler

would be handy as i've just fitted one!!

 

the one iv got is universal purley because tailored ones cost a fortune, i think they do do a fitted ones mit be worth a phone call how much you thinking of spending

initially £145 does sound steep but i guess i'm after the protection of a garage, so seems cheap compared to that!!

If the cars isnt perfectly clean it can do more harm then good sometime.

Got mine from halfords a couple of yr ago as my car stands most of the wk-they were £50 at the time though think theyve gone up now-worth that but if its windy the cover where its tight on the car(front wings/rear spoiler/rear1/4`s/roof) rubs against the paintwork and marks it(cover is only tyvek) so i put a few old sheets on first an its fine.
Will spend more next time and get a proper lined one but its done what ive wanted it to do for the money.

Car has to be perfectly clean or the cover rubs the grit/salt/muck/whatever into your paintwork an marks it.

 

I too am in the same position, secured drive, but no garage. Nothing more annoying to spending a day cleaning the car, only to return to it 2 or 3 days later to find a layer of dust and other fallen objects on it.

To this end i have been looking at solutions for some time.

The covers produced by Covercraft (http://www.covercraft.com) do seem very good, but a tailored breathable outdoor cover is around the £400 mark. They are supplied by Covercraft Europe is the worlds largest maker of custom-fit car covers, motorbike & scooter covers, jet-ski covers, pet covers, pet pads and cargotech bags in the UK.

I have recently found these (Car Cover Shop - superior soft cotton car covers for indoor use and Breatheable and fully waterproof covers for outdoor use) and they seem to be half the price. I sent them an email a couple of days ago requesting samples of the material etc.

Other options are the Carcoon (Welcome to Carcoon Storage Systems the future of car storage and protection) which seems to be a new inovation idea and reasonably priced for what it is.

Another one for the mix is CarCoversUK (http://www.carcoversuk.com/). Again seem reasonble priced around the £170 mark for an outdoor breathable cover.

It is true what is mentioned above, the car needs to be clean before applying the cover as any dust / dirt on the car can be dragged over the paint work causing swirls etc as the cover is being applied.

I had a Covercraft Noah outdoor cover on my wagon, it was taylor made to fit, it is a good cover but it still rubbed the paintwork and I had to have paint correction on it to get rid of the rub marks

As has be said before on this post you should never put a cover on a car that hasn't been cleaned and I never did.

My car isn't used daily, it is used only on high days and holiday really but it still became hard work everytime I took the car out I had to clean it before I could put the cover on (it has to be covered all the time as unfortunately my drive has a big sycamore tree overhanging it so it gets covered in sap and or bird **** within minutes of cleaning it) I have now invested in a portable garage from www.canvasandnylon.co.uk. I am very pleased with it, now I can take the car out then put it in the garage and wash it and put an indoor cover on it at my leisure (which is the next day usually).

I concidered a Carcoon but wanted to be able to walk around the car while it was in the garage, you obviously can't do this with a Carcoon, I was concerned the paint work may get damaged when you tried to put it on and also I was told that the zip gets damaged when you drive over it over a period of time and can fail and then need replacing, so all in all a Carcoon wasn't for me.
