Hi All,
In the market for a new car have narrowed it down to a Evo 8 or Scooby.
I have around 13k to spend, I have always liked to have a unique or special car, hence have been looking at an 8 RS.
The P1 looks like the right car but its too old for me, any advice on which Scooby to start my search with, the car will be also used on the track, as well as a second car for my commute.

Get an STI,just had a look on Pistonheads,there's a few nice one's for around about that price

believe me get an evo you will not be disappointed,just sold the wifes big mistake

 

EVOs require twice as many services than a new age Subaru but apart from that both good cars and its down to personal choice on looks etc...go for a new age 04/05 sti if you opt for the Scooby

dont no for sti but 380 pack for evo is about 1800 pound

Welcome, Scoobs and EVOs are both great cars, suggest you drive both to see which you prefer, performance wise there is not huge amounts in it.

Not too sure about cost to tune to that sort of power levels.

funnily enough Danfranlklyn does not speak for all of SN with his "what do you think WE are going to advise" comments. You will get a lot of biased views of course but also a few scoob owners who have moved to the dark side and vise-versa, it is not always a one way street.

I love both the Evo and Sti and have driven the Evo 9 FQ MR 360, Evo 6 300hp and the 07 Sti (which isnt far different from the blobeye).

Performance wise they are much the same so it really comes down to your personal likes and dislikes.

The Evo will be more rare, which ever model you choose, but you will be getting an older car as the Evo is vastly over priced IMO. The Evo is more expensive to run, but that doesnt matter if your not covering thousands of miles every year.

The Evo, particulary the 6, was a harder ride than the Sti and both lacked something for me next to the scoob, thats not to say its a better car, it just worked better for me. As someone has said, drive them both, but which ever you choose you will be happy.

I have owned an MY02 STI now i fitted that out with td05/06 20g, fmic, equal headers, decat, hks evc, induction, fuel pump blah blah....way over 2.5k to achieve 400bhp

EVO IX.....Decat, Induction, HKS EVC and a tune= 400bhp for less than 1k....

Same mods on a STI would be producing 330-340bhp from a car that orignally produced 275bhp therefore gain for your 1k is 55-65bhp....EVO GSR 299bhp stock up to 400 bhp is 100bhp for your 1k ..... so i dunno what your talking about

 

if you like a special car, why not try and get an s202 sti, rare as rocking horse ****, and stunning cars.

 

If you could stretch the budget a little I saw a bugeye in the for sale section with 500bhp

I love it thanks mate, love the car its very capable offers a neutral drive enabling me to put the car where i want it when i want it, in the shape i want it

The STI is a very capable car and a great base, but IMO having owned both the Evo is a superior vehicle both in build quality and drive.....maybe lacks the character of a scoob, such as the exhaust note and understeer as well as complimentary graphics kit but apart from those sniggles IMO is leagues ahead of its Subaru counterpart..... one thing from the evo that would enhance your Subaru driving pleassure is a quick rack steering rack and smaller diameter steering wheel....small things i know but it all adds up

yeah depends what you want from your car, i cant knock the Impreza its a solid motor and as i say a great base, the Evo however is just a great car out of the box and it can only get better...........wagons yes the ix wagon is a bit of an abortion, Impreza wagons are cool, nothing like giving Mr. TVR/911 a fright with the dog in the back

no thats an unfair comparisson, if your comparing like that do it properly, a look at pistonheads classifieds shows 06 sti to be in the region 17-18.5k... EVO IX FQ320 / JDM GSR 17.5-20k depending on year of reg

now power wise already stated mods are 2.5k for the hardware then there is the fitting time and ECUtek license and tune taking costs up to at least 4k

EVO rc developments package for example gives everything fited for 1200....then factor in the fact that the Evo block in standard guise is tougher than that of the STI and to run 450bhp all u need is a set of head bolts and a fp green turbo then it really does leave you with many options

 

the bloke who started this has 13k to spend were not talking about 17-20k mark

 

Thanks guys, looks like I will be driving an STi around the 03/04 plate, I drove an RB5 a while back but it really was lacking in performance. The Evo 8 300 I drove went like a rocket and handled like it was on rails.
If anybody is in Surrey and can save me having to goto the dealer let me know if they are free to take me for a spin :-)
