some of you may have seen my post in the wanted section but I am in two minds wrt what to do now.

Basically I have got a spare £5000 and am not sure what to do with it.

I think there are two options...

1. Part-ex my current WRX against something else, preferably another Impreza (maybe an EVO of some description...should I get my coat ). If anyone has a car that they want to get rid of for about 13k and feel like a part-ex please drop me a line.

Just had a look at your site - you don't say what year or mileage, but it looks well smart to me. What's the prob? Do you just want a bit more go (or stop)?

Here's what I'd do. Talk to Bob Rawle and follow his advice, probably something along the lines of opening up your induction and a full exhaust with down-pipe plus a Link ECU. I've no idea what Bob would charge for mapping, but whatever it is it's worth it.
That's the motor seriously sorted.

Now you need some proper brakes, AP 6-pots. Get some new wheels with class rubber - SO2-PPs - and use your current wheels with current rubber for track days. The new wheels will make it look like you've got a new car anyway!

How's the suspension? If it's knackered obviously you'll need to spend. If track days are your thing adjustable struts would be good. Leda?

Any money left? How about a nice set of centre pod guages and carbon fibre interior trim?

And don't forget a new apron to keep the missus happy. What the hell, Marigolds as well!

hiya, so the current thinking is buy goodies then?

Braking-wise I've got P1 4-pots on it anyway, mileage is 64k and serviced very regularly by Roger Clarke Motorsport.

btw those photo's are old, there is an evo spoiler on the back end now too...

I bet youre glad you didnt buy that boost gauge now, as your'e after a new car.Sod the mods dude go for the sti, you should be able to get a nice v2 or v3 for your money.

This may be a daft question but will the STi be as noticably 'different' to my car with a ton of mods? Still not an STi tho is it!

I saw a lovely Evo 4 yesterday.....would like a go in one to see what they are like.

To the untrained eye your modded car will not look much different than an sti,and your car is a bonny motor,but if i was you i would go for the sti car without a doubt , youll get noticed far more by a scoob enthusiast...as for the evo 4 its a great car with awsome cornering abilities, my uncle owns one and i have driven it a few times, but still prefer thesti every time.
The scoob has so much more grunt for me, cant beat that flat four rumble mate!
By the way i was talking to my uncle last week and he was saying that there could be a recall on all evo 4s due to a fault on the rear diff.It whines a lot and is a very complex part of the car which needs a lot of care and attention.ayc fluid must be changed regular or you can end up needing a new diff..SCARY THOUGHT!!
AH well thats my opinions for you and good luck with whatever you get mate......

Thanks for your advice about this post, am still not sure what to do tho, my car needs a bit of money spent on it anyway and part of me says spend it on this one because I won't be able to get a newer STi with the amount of money I've got....sigh

Mattski - I would break it down to these two things :

1) What has the STaiii got that your's hasn't.

2) What can it do thay your's can't.

That way you can decide if the STI is the way to go.
Anyway, I thought the STI was a WRX with a few bolt on's and a power hike! I could well be wrong though.

Yes, they do have more power and some extra goodies but for me, and this may sound daft, that little badge means sooo much!

Don't get me wrong, I love my WRX, it costs me way too much money etc etc but an STi is, well, something special.

Part of me is really tempted to go and buy a load of goodies for the WRX, new ECU, new exhaust, filters, gauges etc and it would be damn quick but it hasn't got that little badge on it has it!

Don't get me wrong, I know there are loads of other nice cars around, a friend suggested doing a part-ex on an Escort Cosworth, I quite like EVO 4's but the Impreza is special to me

evo's are a good car but they will cost you an arm and a leg in fuel, only a 50ltr tank and mpg is less (alot less!!) than your scoob, about 150ish miles out of a tankand sul only Id go for an sti, see if there are any v4s out there for around 18k should be one or too and alot of people praise them more than the v5 or v6's!!

Hmmmmm, tough one. The badge doesn't mean that much to me.

It's really a standard model WRX that's had the equiv of the Prodrive treatment. I have just looked at the SIDC Faq and only some models have the closed deck block, blueprinted engine and short ratio Gbox etc.

If it was me, I would need a damn good reason to change. After all, it won't FEEL as if you have changed the car. It will just have a different badge.

I would stick with what you've got and upgrade it a little. Does the badge mean THAT much to you.

That is the dilema... not quite enough cash to get what I really want etc, and I don't wanna take out a loan, I own my current WRX (no finance ) so don't wanna go down the borrow cash route. Oh, and to top it all off I am really impatient and impulsive..dangerous with a few grand in the pocket and an itchy right foot

Your mention of the Link sounds a good idea. Scooby Sport exhaust system, link mapping by Bob R. Heck, with the money you have melting your pocket, you could get a Hybrid Turbo aswell. That'll be Bob R again then.

I quite fancy the Cibie/PIAA driving lamps because they currently suck! My brothers Renault 19 16v has got mega lights compared to my scoob.

I'm not going on, am too scared Just you wait till the Link ECU and other 'goodies' are on it ... might think about it then (if I decide on the upgrade route that is !)

I still haven't got a completely clear view of what to do ... grrrr!

I drove an RB5 with Leda suspension down at Scoobysport a couple of weeks back (cheers Jules ) - most impressive - worth looking at I reckon. Plus a nice downpipe and PIAA driving lamp kit and....

The list goes on. Have fun
