Type RA's have shorter gearing, your probably looking at between 140-150mph for one, other scoobs will be higher but the RA's are quicker due to ligher weight and those ratios

Hi All

Well all I can say is I personally have seen an indicated
>150 (abroard) in an RA ... this was >8000 rpm.

... and no it wasn't in mine as I've still got the limiter

Cheers

I've also seen (an indicated) 150mph in Scott's but I can't remember @ what rpm - it was at Bedford and we ran out of road (the straight after the only lefthander with a runoff into a wall )

Matt

P.S. Pretty certain given more space, there was a bit more left to go....

cheers guys, reason is my modded uk legacy turbo (impreza engine) blew it g/box. so am replacing with ra box and r/diff.
redline on mine is 7000rpm.
so if they pull 160 @ 8000, mine should do 140 @ 7000rpm.
less than it does top end now, but accelation will be more useful, as legacy's are high geared 140 @ 7000 in fourth!

thanks again

UK Legacy

The guys are bang on with the figures. My RA blew the box recently so when I stripped it down I actually counted the number of teeth on each gear an crownwheel/pinion assembly (sad yes) and drew up a ratio chart.

Assuming you have the 3.9 CWP then 150 = 8000rpm (on 610mm Dia tyres)
You are only looking at 131 at 7000 I'm afraid.

5th gear on a WRX RA is identical to a UK 4th gear

For info your MPH at 7000 through the gears will be

1st 38
2nd 55
3rd 73
4th 94
5th 131

The CR box makes it feel so much faster than a UK !!

I did the math on this one. With STi 4.44 gearing and the standard (non competition short ratio gearbox) 8250 RPM in 5th works out to 143mph. Note that the speedo is off by a bit at this point and I usually use a GPS to record max speed to keep my eyes on the track.

thanks for the tech guys! 131mph top is a bit poo, but then again the 5th gear revs will mean ill keep my lisence!!
car already feels damn fast, so if the RA feels so much faster than the uk, cant wait to fit the box/diff !!
i think the gearing is too high at present anyway!
cheers

oh just a thought, dont know if ratios will be 3.9 or 4.44 - box and diff are from MY98 RA.......

also, my tyres are approx 630mm dia, as they are standard legacy turbo wheels with 205/60V15 tyres.

I can confirm Adam Bs post although the car is non STi (WRX RA ver6).
All the literature available points to the final drive ratio (on standard 16inch wheels) producing 20mph for every 1000 rpm.
The car pulls way into the red in top gear and hits the limiter @8250 rpm with an indicated 160 mph.

Dave.
