... and the gearbox is almost out .... doing a diy clutch change on a MY96 - whilst the gearbox is out thinking about getting the box checked over - bit weak on the syncromesh etc - anyone done this or have experience of what wears most .. bearings etc - car has done 94k miles. Friends Legacy gave up at 115k miles with gearbox bearing failure but which bearings?

Any recommended scooby gearbox overhaulers in the West London / Reading area.

All advice gratefully received.

My gearbox failed (locked up all 4 wheels at 90 MPH) It siezed 2nd whilst flat out in 5th !!
The bearing that went was the steel bush behind 2nd synchro, the one that 2nd gear normally free-wheels on whilst not engaged.

I now run Redline shockproof oil, It's highly recommended by our cousins in the USA on i-club

My 2p worth !
