Default Got a good one for ya....................

I have a 97 sti that has a rattle

Here i go. 6 months ago i replaced the clutch for an exceedy organic race clutch(pink box) and had the lightened flywheel skimmed at the same time.

a day later i had it down the pod( i know i know i didnt bed in )

well since then it has a vibrating rattle when you come off the throttle. sounds like the zorst hitting the prop(it aint)

also really really juddery when pulling off or down changing.

its been to a very repuatable tuner and they have replaced the rear diff, gearbox, prop and driveshafts for p1 stuff.

yet its still there

needless to say i aint going back there

i now think it must be the clutch of flywheel.

any thoughts would be appreciated

Sounds clutch or fly wheel related assuming the judder happens you engage the clutch.

Take the car to a garage get a second opinion, either way it would be best not to buy anything until its in bits and problem confirmed.

However if the judder is not to bad it may just be worth living with after all many imprezas do have this problem although not ideal.

Are you certain the rattle (as opposed to a vibration) is not from the down pipe shield?
The exhaust can touch the center bearing of the car only when on the over-run. But while standing still there is a good 10mm clearance. I had this. The gap closes due to twisting of the engine on it's mounts.

Just a thought.

OK:
Does the clutch release fork have it's light sping still fitted?
The sping is very long, about 80mm and 8mm in diameter, links off the back of the engine block to the top of the clutch release arm. You can feel for it under the TMIC. That spring tensions the arm lightly against the release bearing on the clutch cover, without it the heavy arem can 'vibrate' about 5mm or more = rattle maybe till you remove the clearances by pressing the clutch pedal.

worth a poke-about?
