Honestly, this is purely hypothetical.. but one that occured to me today.

Imagine I buy a new registration number from the DVLA.. and have the tax disc + V5 to prove etc.

Now.. imagine if I didn't get round to changing the number plate on the car (yeah yeah, an offence I know.. but let that ride for now)

Now.. what if I was laser-gunned by the police ?

Will they send a "you're nicked" letter to me, as that number was previously assigned to a car that I own ?

If so.. could I not claim that my car was correctly plated at the time of the offence, and argue that as I no longer own that number it has nothing to do with me. (perhaps some thief using my old number plate)

Is the burden of proof on the police to prove that I was carrying wrong plates ?

Or what about this...a "practical joke"

If i copied my mate's number plate down, who happens to have the same model and colour of car as me, then I went lunging through a Gatso, but at a speed HIS car is not capable of, due to more mods being done to mine... surely then they'd have trouble proving his car is capable of that speed?

(purely hypothetical question of course!!!LOL)

Its much much simpler than that - just get hold of some mud and mask ONE of the digits - very muddy at this time of the year would you not agree?? a dirty numberplate is an offence but I dont think it carries any points (or am I wrong???)

yeah, but i was wondering, what would happen, say, if somebody copied MY plate down then did a Gatso? How do i prove my innocence? how do they prove my guilt?

James Bond style rotating number plates anybody ????

 

Couple of years ago a friend got a new Company repmobile - it took him a few days to realise that the front and back number plates didn't have the same numbers on them....

Change one of the front plate`s numbers from the correct plate on the back! S123ABC up front and S124ABC on the back.If you get caught say that the plates are new and you never noticed!!!!!!

 

Both the old index and new one are held on the PNC and DVLA computer, it is what's know as "a cherished transfer", so which ever way you do it they will still send you the ticket, and it is for you to disprove the offence. Covering it in Mud is also an offence, so take your pick!

WADR, it is for you to simply _deny_ the offence. In this country you are still innocent until *proven* guilty (but only just!).
