Just had a Clifford 500 fitted but I wanted to have a remote start fitted as well. But after 2 days I was told that due to the immobiliser on UK spec car the chip in the barrel prevents the remote start from being fitted... although Clifford seem unaware of this fact saying It just a "Subaru..." stating it shouldn't be a problem but it is...
Anybody out there in Scoobyland have a solution...
Please reply....

All the best

Not sure about the problem, but fitting a remote start will invalidate your alarm's Cat 1 status, and may cause hassle with your insurers.
It sounds like a nice gimmic, but is it worth it?

What do you do about the gears with remote start? Presumably you have to leave it in neutral?

DreamWeaver with the Cliiford one with keys in ignition and engine running you press two button until you hear the relay click, remove keys and gather your stuff and get out of car (engine still running) you then arm with remote.
If alarm is trigger in anyway shape or form you will not be able to remote start.

My Clifford does this, I was told this is called a 'turbo timer'

The remote start option (extra) actually allows you to start the car from outside.

AFAIK the car starts up, but the alarm stays armed.

I was told it could be fitted (extra 40 quid, labour only as I understand) but I haven't yet done it.

Both explanations sound reasonable in their own context - the Turbo Timer option would be good for allowing the turbo to cool once stopped.

I just remember seeing a remote start system once but it was for auto cars only. It always puzzled me as to whether you could do it with manuals.

Mr Cookie, when does the engine shut off when you press the buttons, and isn't it a pain to have to remember the routine each time?

No it's not a pain once you get used to it engine cuts out when you press the arm button and all doors and bonnet have to be shut, boot can be open though.

Gary

I was told that there are problems with connecting clifford turbo timer and remote start together, as i originally went for both (im a lazy sod at heart ) and i think although it is a bit gimicky i can start my car whilst cleaning teeth say, and it will be already for me to sit in and drive without the worries of a gentle warm up before i go anywhere

I agree with Cookie, it's easy peasy to use but a little annoying if it doesn't get the signal (ie unexpectedly turns off ! - panic !), learnt the listen for the relay click early

Cookie

Yeah sounds great doesn't it ! (also lazy git), also useful for

1) Waking up next doors lazy cat that I swear pisses in my air vents
2) Scaring small children who dare to kick footballs onto my drive
3) Making the car even colder on cold winter mornings (after accidently leaving the aircon on the night before)

I can't wait it'll be great !

Am a little worried about what you say though, I don't trust electonic gizmos at the best of times

Gary, Cookie

It does sound great to be able to have the car started as you are eating the flakes - knowing my luck though some sod would get in it and sod off, if that is possible.

Which leads me to think of something else - when it auto starts, where do you put your keys when you jump in?

Sounds like another gizmo to add to the list!!

The car is still locked while running you have too then press the arm/disarm button t open doors to get in, if you dont put the keys in ignition and then drive off the second your press the brake pedal engine dies.

Hi Guys,

I had auto start fitted and it was fine until the fitter tried to wire the lights up to the autostart, its a feature that lets you know when the autostart is working. It blew the lights at the colum end, new indicator/wiper assembly was required.
Also you cant have the heaters left on because its makes no difference as the electrics are not all switched on, ie nothing works, apart from the engine.
It is very useful if you dont have a turbo timer, goes down well with the birds to !

Unhappy

The guy who fitted my clifford 600 told me that you couldnt have both turbo timer and remote start as they were both on the same button, thus i opted for the turbo timer
i also belive that the remote engine start only runs for so long before it cuts out (2 mins???) you may just as well jump in the car and start it up, you will need to set the heater to full and to put the rear screen demister on anyway!
Sod the start and go for the turbo timer, atleast that does something worthwhile!!

Mine is set to run for around 10 minutes although this can be changed with cliffordnet or whatever they call it.

Question

I have also enquired about remote starter and was also told that it invalidates the Cat 1 status of the alarm.

Companies are normally happy to fit them to auto cars (I'm OK then ) but normally require a waiver if you want it fitted to a manual.

If my company are wrong I would be surprised as they seem pretty clued up.

Thanks

Gavin

That used to be the case but with how the current clifford system works you just cant leave it in gear.

Mr Cookie.
I use the timer facilty on the Clifford as a turbo timer, but I was told by Clifford that the remote start expels the Cat 1 status.
Common sense really. Firtsly, it's illegal to leave a car with the engine running, and secondly I think your insurers and the police would laugh when you told them you'd started your car 'remotely' whilst eating your cornflakes!
If I'm wrong, so was the person I spoke to at Clifford.

Mr.Cookie

You have your Turbo Timer set for 10 minutes???? I hope this is a joke.

Subaru told me the best times for a Turbo Timer is between 30 seconds and 1 minute.
Older turbos should be between 3 and 4 minutes.

Thumbs down

Why should that be funny, after a motorway run i would let the car idle for at least that once i'd go to my destination (obviously not if i wanted a pee!)

There is no harm in letting it idle for 10mins and its programmable so better to be safe than sorry in my book

Question

I thought that it did too, but having spoken to one of the most respectable Clifford Installers in Croydon (he he), i am informed that turbo timer and remote start do not invalidate Cat 1!

50/50, Phone a friend or ask the audience!

Hi All

First off i dont have a turbo timer i'm of the patiently wait brigade , the 10 minute bit is from when i remote start my car to my car deciding ive gone back to bed .
As for invalidating waranties the older clifford version and code alarm use to, but as for as what i was told, the new version of cliffords do not

Regards
Simon
