I'm hoping that some UK based owner's of WRX's will be able to help me. I am
currently in Australia and own a 99 WRX, I am returning to the UK in a
couple of months and am able to bring the car in without any duties
(returning citizen). I owe about $28000 on the car which equates to about
10, 500 GB pounds. The question really is, is it worth bringing back to the
UK or would I be better off selling and buying the same vehicle on arrival.
What is the value of a 99 WRX in UK?

Hope someone can help

TIA

I assume you're talking about the Australian normal WRX - i.e. the same as the UK standard turbo? (i.e. not the Jap spec WRX with 280BHP)

How much will it cost to ship it over?

I wouldn't have thought it was economical to ship your car across. It will probably cost several thousand pounds to do so.

I think MY99 cars are selling for about 14k privately, and about 16k from a dealer at the moment, and these will probably be a little lower still in a few months time.

There are subtle differences between the Australian spec WRX, and the UK cars, in that we don't get air-con as standard, but do get headlamp washers, adjustable headlamp aiming, and of course the famous bright switch.

Given that you could probably experience some difficulties should you ever come to sell an imported vehicle (ie get less money for it), then I would say your best option is to definitely sell your car over there, and buy a similar car on arrival (or shortly afterwards).

Yes the car is a standard turbo and will cost about 1000 pounds to ship to the UK.

It really looks like a borderline decision because there will be a difference of about 4k pounds between selling and buying again and I would be selling a known quantity for an unkown one. I'll have to give it more thought.
Thanks for your advice

ps what is the "bright switch"

Cool

You should compare it like for like i.e. with a non-European imported MY99 in the UK.

I don't know what the going rate is though.

Anyone else know?
