Just joined scoobynet today - here's a bit about me and my car. Im 26 and from Portlethen which is just outside Aberdeen in Scotland.

My car is a 53 plate WR blue STi v8 and i have owned this now since May. I previously had a Supra TT and before that, a classic Impreza UK Turbo.

My car has the following mods:

Full Miltex exhaust with racing cat
KW fully adj coilovers
18'' speedline Turinis
Zerosports ind kit
Forge dump valve
Ecutek remap (Andy Forrest) with 2 map settings
STi front lip spoiler with STi rear high level spoiler
HKS turbo timer

The car is running approx 340 bhp on 'high' mode and its an absolute dream to drive! Sounds mind blowing when on full boost!

I am looking to move onto the next step and start tinkering with the internals to get approx 450 bhp or. The guy i bought the car from is extremely knowledgable about Subarus, and carries out all engine work himself - im just looking for some information from people on here as to what i'll need to get (pistons, injectors, turbo) etc and the manufacturers of the parts? has anyone on here done what im looking to do (maybe a silly question!!) Any help much appreciated - also, is my 450bhp realistic? comments appreciated!

I assume you'll take it back to Andy for the remap? If so I'd drop him a mail and ask his advice

But basically you have a good base car and there are bolt on turbos that will give you your 450HP

 

Uprated internals are a must for reliability on that engine, look at an engine oil cooler also, possably front mount too, cost will depend on what you are willing to put in the engine, Andy F will probably give you some good advice in that area too

look at my spec, its around 450, and there are a few others like terryb with similar specs, you will defo need internals, a good turbo and some nice big injectors

I have e-mailed Andy F for his thoughts! Also speaking to the guys at scoobyclinic and the SC450 conversion looks very interesting! Quite a lot of money but bet its worth it!

I will upload some pics etc once i get off my crutches and can clean the car!!

Spoke to Andy F over e-mail - looks like i'll be fitting a new Turbo, 650cc injectors, new APS cold air ind kit, Apexi AVCR and an uprated fuel pump then a nice slow drive down to Andy for mapping!

This is all to be done in the middle of October so looking forward to it!

1 questiosn i have - clutch? Whats people opinions/experience with raising the car to around 400bhp with the standard STi verison 8, 6 speed gearbox and clutch? I believe the gearbox is pretty much bomb proof? but what about the clutch?!?!

What turbo are you having fitted?

 

Andy has suggested one of his Garrett Turbos? I read that it is a bit laggier on the 2.0ltr engine. Looking at his website, i think it is this 1:

''The MD321H is ideally suited to 2.0/2.1 ltr engines aiming for 400 bhp on pump fuel. Boost threshold is similar to an 18G''

I e-mailed him back regarding this and asked about another of his Turbos - one that requires external wastegate and some other mods. This 1:

"AFP30H – This turbo is based around a custom sized Garrett GT30R core. It requires dedicated exhaust up pipe, down pipe and a remote wastegate. A complete bolt on package is available. Spool up to 1 bar on this turbo is typically 3600rpm on a 2.0 litre with full boost by 4000rpm.


On a 2.5 litre 1 bar boost is achieved by 3100rpm and full boost by 3500rpm. This turbo is capable of 500bhp and is only available as a new unit."

Any thoughts?

 

If you can afford to blow a whole in your bank account, do it big style!

Personally, I would prefer less power and more boost a bit further down the graph. There's nothing more frustrating than being caught of guard waiting for the turbo to spool up.

I would much prefer the driveability myself.

If you can afford it, why not go the whole 9 yards and get a 2.5 bottom end or something like that?

 

Pick up an MD421T from Andy and a set of 650's and you'll make close to the 450 you want but a 321H will make for an awesome road car ( I have 2 of these to fit to cars this time home)!

you'll DEFINITELY need a new clutch!

Yes, it was his and his wife's old Sti! Lovely car and what a noise when its on full boost!

I have spoken to Brian and he is pricing parts/labour up for me over the weekend! Looks like i'll go with Andy F's reccomended spec and get Brian to fit the parts!

To fit that little lot would cost you 170 from me

Brain might be a liitle more than that but if you have the money then get him to fit it. Even RCMS and TSL seem to push work his way
