Rattle during Run-in??
Not sure if i'm being paranoid here but my engine was rebuilt 600 miles ago, over the last 100 miles i've heard a sqeak/rattle at low speeds around the engine bay i.e speeds of 10mph, sounds a bit like if you placed a nail in a tin and shook it gently when you went over the bumps. I have'nt looked yet but initial thoughts were exhaust manifold etc.
Now i have'nt done my oil change yet so still on the run in oil, not sure if this is anythin to do with it?
Or am i looking at something expensive
Over to you.

ok never had a petrol engine rebuilt but been in a few vans that have. they where pretty noisy for first few hundred miles but i know thats not alot of help.
right stab in the dark but i do know that the heat shields around the exhaust manifold under the car always come loose and rattle when they get a bit old. dont know if you had this removed when engine was rebuilt but you could check them by giving them a shake. if theres any movement at all then this will cause noise at low speeds or when slowing down to low revs. just any kind of engine shake from low revs really.
what kind of noise is it with timing? does it kind of go with the engine timing or is it more of just a knocking.

This sounds exactly like the rattle i have on my car at the moment. Turned out to be the heat shield around the up-pipe.
Let the car idle and take a look underneath to see if you can see it rattling
