as above just a thought what do they use

so how come with only 300 bhp they are so damn quick?Is that all to do with brakes and suspension then?

60kg-m @ 4000rpm, whats that in old money?

300bhp is the outlined limit but in reality they run nearer 340bhp. The bhp is restricted but the FIA legislated 34mm restrictor mounted on the turbocharger inlet. Yes this limits peak air intake volume so limits peak bhp numbers. However they can still run 4 bar of boost in the middle for huge torque.
Couple this torque to a semi automatic gearbox, and a light weight car and thay can cover WRC stages rather quickly

And gearing, they generally don't have a really high top speed, eg: on the Finland rally their max speed is about 200km/h (125mph)
