I have a 1994 import with 110mph dash and want to swap for the 180mph version. But before I start.

How tricky is this job, anyone done this before?

What to do about mileage?

Does it not say 180kmh on your dash?
I have a 1993 wrx and it only reads in kmh.

 

Mines the 110mph dash and since I had it de-resticted it goes way off the clock. The mileage still reads in kph. I have seen your one.
I've just purchased the 180mph version. Hope its not a huge job.

 

I would assume your changing the complete speedo?
On yours it reads 110mph but the scale size of speed is wider apart. ie from 10mph to 30mph and so on. So you have no convertor in between the speedo cables.
Its the actual speedo dial face that has been changed once it arrived in the uk at some point (sva).
I think that was one of the options to get import cars to read in mph.
The other was having a convertor fitted. With the 110mph dial face it would still have the limiter.

So if you fit the new 180mph speedo you will need the mechanical convertor as well. The 180mph scale is much shorter apart. Without the convertor you will be reading in kph.

Fitting is not that difficult. I usually drop the steering column to help aid removing the speedo. There should be 2 x 12mm bolts which hold the steering column to the cross bar. The speedo surround is next only a few screws & then the speedo itself. There should be 3 electrical connectors at the back of the speedo & one speedo cable plugged in. The cable just pulls off, the connectors need to have the clip press then pull off.

Its pretty simple.

I had better look into it a bit more then. Can you pick up a converter easy enough do you know?
Yes its the whole unit i.e speedo, rev, fuel and temp guage.

converters are on ebay or Import Solutions and are easy to fit mine is at the gearbox end of the speedo cable.
