You are aware these are Euro imports?

 

Realised they are Imports but whats the difference between a jdm and a Euro ??

Bought my MY05 wrx of them,just under 2 years ago,no problems,great to deal with(big saving over a same spec UK one).
Have a quick search on the forum and you'll find a wealth of info regarding this issue.

It's an Import and will be treated as such by:-

1. UK Dealers - go to the back of the queue

2. Insurance Companies

3. The second buyer (who will want quite a substantial discount for accepting a non UK car)

However, savings are there to be made up-front ....... up to you really if you want to accept the downsides?

 

Any difference in spec

 

There are differences - probably things like, but not limited to, :-

Rustproofing

Locking Wheel Nuts

Cat1 Alarm/Immobiliser System

 

Yes and no

The JDM is a 2.0L and the EU/UK are 2.5L's a few other differences aswell

There are no basic diffferences between UK & EU although they may not have some "Extras" as "std" on an EU compared with a UK like a CAT1 alarm or Tracker or locking wheel nuts underseal ????? ( need to check what it HAS and what it HASN'T got

As PJ748R say loads on here happy with a Parrallel Import. and lots of info on S/N and would have found some links for you but I'll be in retirement by the time I find it google garbage

Also Pete Lewis is right these extra's can add up if and might be better getting a "UK" car fom an Importer like litchfieds ect or cutting a deal at a dealer.

I'm not personally a fan of imports but IMHO from what I have read on forums from owners - the JDM is a better spec car, but the risks of importing and getting what you think u r paying for seem higher... the EU is a lower spec car that you get cheaper. The UK car is of course spec'd and supported specifically for UK consumers. Make your own decisions on what you want and don't.

The only thing you could consider, delaying buying one till august/Sept as the new model starts creeping through maybe some better 07 Bargins to be had

Dealers are no issue, insurance companys class it as a uk car and it comes with a full 3 year 60k warranty (unless pre-registered).

The Euro car is undersealed but doesnt come with side air bags (unless you pay for them), locking wheel nuts and alarm. Other than that it is standard.

As for Allbrandsnew, i used them back in March 06 and the service was great, they went out of their way to be helpfull.

I have to agree with Tony though, wait a short while and you will probably pick up a pre-registered 07 Sti for 19k!!

With regards to the whole import thing, I have an EU import, and things missing were locking nuts (£20 off Ebay) Tracker (refitted from my old car (£80) Brand new Trackstar fitted is about £289 and a Cat 1 alarm (£300 fitted, better spec than factory)
So £600 quid. OK I might not recover as much at the other end of the 3 years but the reality is prob about a £2-3k less on the second hand market. So in the long run, less outlay, less return. If your keeping the car for a few years, the saving is worth it, as it saves initial outlay.

As for back of the queue. The only reason it would do that is while they are waiting on the authority to carry out the work, which in short has more channels to go thru to get the thumbs up. Ultimatly all warranties are underwritten by Fuji Heavy Industries, and they give the thumbs up. In EU inport cases, that has to go via the origin dealer in Europe too.

Insurance, laughed when I suggested there was an issue with an EU import. We are an EU country as far as they are concerned, its a mass produced car which reached European standards.... End of.

Downsides imo.

PPP not yet fully honoured by Subaru on EU imports

Might be a hassle for some getting alarm etc fitted (was not for me)

Warranty starts at origin, so you get the car with the remainder of whats left. ASK how much is left BEFORE buying. THe longer you leave it, the shorter the remaining warranty can be.

Thats it, residuals... so what, like I say its unlikely to outweigh the saving.

 

I had a full warranty on mine as it was first registered in my name the week it entered the UK. Allbrandsnew were pretty good with this but if the car is already in the country and registered it is possible the clock will have started ticking. Just ask, they will be straight with you.
