Default Engaging a PPG

Does the engine need to be running to get a PPG box to engage, I bought one from someone on here a while back and now have it all fitted but it wont go into any gear??? does it have to be running or something

I have the straight cut synchro, and it selects in standstill or moving. Best to take a closer look at it again....

I refitted my reverse/neutral switches once without the spacer washers and it stopped gear selection.

just bringing this up again, my box engages now and have done a few miles (thanks john that seemed to be the prob) but unsure if ive done it perfectly, is there a set size washer you need for these switchs as it crunch's into gear unless i time it perfectly and its annoying me lol, plus makes some pritty loud bangs when engaging...ekkk

Is it a dog box or a syncro box, you've never said ?

If it's a dog box the 'bangs' going into gear are perfectly normal, the crunches are because you arenot changing fast/brutally enough. Don't be gentle with it !!!!!!!!!!!

Not an ideal choice for a road car !!
