My car is a 1997 turbo saloon (registered 3rd/97) has done 32000 miles and has a fssh.
I am due a service 9/12/2000 and am wondering what service is required by subaru?
The car has not had a cambelt change yet (and hopefully will not need one yet as subaru charge 400 quid)
Any help/advice is much appreciated

ROY.

Servicing is every 7500 miles or 6 months. So your next service will be either 37500 or 6 months after the last one. 37500 is only a half service and should cost around £75 (main dealer)

Cam belt service is at 45000, and costs about £300-350 at a main dealer

GS,

Because your car is over 3 years old, ask your dealer to check the cam belt at the 37500 service anyway. Although Gary is correct in saying that the cam belt should be replaced at 45k miles, it can also perish over time, so have it checked. If the dealer says it'll wait till the 45k miles service, fine. If he reckons it's perishing, it will be cheaper to replace it than to have it break and wreck your top end. I bought my car at 3yrs & 3mths with only 17k miles on it but got the dealer to replace the cam belt before I picked up the car. Better safe than sorry.

I agree entirely with H.B. had a belt go on the motorway, not a Scoob but still seriouse money.

Garry who are you using? Costs me more than that and a major approaches!

Just a town will do if you feel it compromises current protocol.

I also have a 97 Scoob. Registered 3/97.
It is booked in with my local dealer in 2 weeks.
The service mine needs is the 48 Month, Costing £470. Either yours will be a 48 Month or a half service and the 48 Month will be next, depending on the serice history (check your service book).

HunterB - 3 years old with only 17K on the clock???? Thats not even 6K a year!
Is it a import with 17,000 logged miles in the UK???? Or is it a genuin 17K (in which case - whow).

Cool

I've just had my 3 year service and had the cambelt changed. The car had done 36k.

The belt looks fine to the naked eye but what damage has been done to its internal structure?

Also the hydraulic cambelt tensioner was leaking and needed replacing (under warranty by 2 days!)

Get it changed at 45k or 3 years whichever is sooner its not worth the risk of an expensive engine rebuild.

sgould,

It is an import - 96N Legacy RS twin turbo (280PS) . Genuine 27k Japanese kilometres (= 17k miles), backed up by full Japanese service history. Suits me, sir.
