Default Car keeps jumping out of gear.

Got a problem with my UK Turbo in that other the last few weeks, when driving along in 5th, the car will occasionally jump out of gear and go into neutral.

Only ever happens with 5th gear, and when selecting 5th it seems as if the gearknob does not go as far forward as it does when selecting any other gear.

Can anyone explain why and remedy for it?

If your car is a MY 1998/99 this is a very common fault and easy to fix. The nut that holds 5th in the box comes 'loose' and the gear so gently drops into neutral!

Any Subaru dealer/specialist can fix it for you.
Best get it done asap though.

Hi

Just had mine done last week by Subaru 4 You I only noticed it when towing a jetski as soon as i lifted of power on a motorway it would come out of gear . It hardely done it when the car was on its own .

But i still needed the 5th gear sleave & hub and as andyxros said its expensive it cost me £330 + all the other bits that go with it + 4 hours labour i also needed a fifth gear selector fork which was £60

My bill for that was about £670 i also had some Black diamond rear discs & mintex pads and 1 hour labour to fit these .

My total bill for this lot was £917.69 I did expect a farliy high bill but was a bit shocked by this .

David
