Thanks to all contributors on my previous S4 thread. I test drove one today and was unimpressed.
granted they are quick but the car does not communicate with you.The handling was not positive and it didn't feel any where as secure as my RB5 when cornering. I feel that the car would at the least need a better suspension set up , recaro seats and a wide bore exhaust.
A little too refined for me. I think it has re affirmed my love affair with scooby.
Now for a laugh . I am going to replace my Jeep with a fully loaded Volvo X country ( Sat nav , telly, semi automatic gearbox and don't forget the Fridge). Some compromise eh!
Thanks again for your input

I think he was talking about a real car young man, not a match box one......now go back to spell practice (you need it). Your fish fingers will be ready soon.

Ha ha, haven't laughed so much in ages. What a good job "jap" rhymes with "crap".

Thanks "voice of reason".

Back on planet sense, FULLY LOADED VOLVO!!!
You people (coz that is what you're going to get called!!) park 'em anywhere and drive like planks.

Sorry mate, stick with the RB5 rather than a dowdy Audi!

Good luck whatever you choose.

Shame audi's reliability aint up to much then isnt it!!!
And i wanted a drivers car, yes audi has better build but that aint what was discussed, it was the s4, something you as an S3 owner cant afford
This is a subaru bulletin board not an audi one!!!!
(ps i use to work for vw/audi and you should have seen the sort of complaints we got!!)

Having changed from a modded (300 bhp, 305 lbft but 1550 kg) Audi S2, to a Forrester stb, perhaps I can give my tuppence worth..
Yup, the Audi oozes class and smugness (or is it smegness?) but you'll have no fun going round corners.
You will pull away from most Imprezzas at 100 mph but where is that going to happen?
With that lardy size to kart around, the S4 will struggle at the lower (and more everyday speeds).
The real proof of user friendliness is when you are the owner of a two or three owner Audi or Scooby and see which bits are falling off or dying.
I learnt the hard way with the Audi so unless its a company car, get rid of the S4 by 75,000 miles.

Perhaps people would listen a little more to your comments if you did not **** all the time . Do you speak to people in the same manner IRL?

The Audi constantly performs well below Subaru in all Customer satisfaction and reliability surveys. What does that tell you about this Audi Quality and Jap crap?

When I first saw mention of 'Audi S2' I thought of a performance derivative of the minute A2. Wouldn't that be a laugh, 900kg and 200+hp 4WD?

Of course, now I realize you meant Audi 80 S2

Of course Japanese cars are crap, they have no idea at all do they. And these comments are from someone who owns an Audi/VW/Skoda (all the same car aren't they ).

hehe, I even read that because they are the same car that the Skoda is better !

To avoid what was a serious question ending up in the muppet show, I have removed the offending posts.

It would appear that the muppet filter has been down for maintainance today!

Recently drove and Audi S3 back to back with a standard UK Scoob at Jonothan Palmer and the Audi S3 was , in my opinion, one of the nastiest cars I've driven. Wooden steering and the nastiest most rubbery brakes even. Seats very uncomfortable anf after 15 minutes had chronic back ache. It was well put together and quite nice inside but certainly not a drivers car to the degree a Scoob is. Not a bad car but it really is horses for courses and the Scoob is the superior drivers car.

The S3 thread has been done to death before. I think that any car driven at Palmer is not trully representative with the abuse they get.

I owned a chipped S3 at the same time as a std UK scoob. Not just a quick blast at Palmer. The seats are electric Recaros and for me compared to the lower back problems that a lot of Scooby owners complain about superb. I took the S3 on track with the Scoobs at a Donnington track day and was suprised how well it did handle. The brakes suffered fade, but no more so than a 4 pot Scooby. I would ultimately admit the Scoob is a better driver car, but not by a large margin. Its interesting to see that since the MY01 has been launched an S3 is imposible to get hold of. They now have a waiting list Subaru's dealers can only dream of.

Geoff

Would tend to agree with you on your S4 findings. Its a great A road and Motorway car, but is not in the same league as a Scooby on B roads. But then its not really designed for that. Yes it does need better suspension and better brakes. The engine though is to die for. Mine has got leather Recaros !!. Most cars though are not perfect. I would like the Audi Interior and engine with SS backbox and Scooby chassis. Still waiting for someone to make it.

Looking at Pete sales of Leda and backbox's you could say the Scooby is hardly perfect in these area's.

As a drivers car for a Sunday morning blast the P1 was a vastly superior car. The smiles per mile were huge. However on a Monday morning stuck in tracfic with 6 hours in the car that day the smiles/mile go to the S4.
Different cars that shouldnt really be compared.

Now where was that exhaust and H&R coilover kit I was looking at

Just having a look at this thread. What has "s3 owner" been saying that was removed by Start H?

Question

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to post here after all the Muppet comments, but I am genuinely interested in the serious views of people who have driven the S4. However I am NOT interested in comparisons with the P1 or RB5 as clearly they would handle better.

Having written off my std. UK MY00 Wagon and having proved that I'm not competent to go fast round corners, my current choice of cars is:

1) Impreza MY01 Wagon @ £24K
2) BMW 330i SE Tourer @ £25K (import)
3) Audi S4 Avant @ £28K (import)
4) Saab 9-5 Aero @ £25K (2nd hand)

Now accepting that the S4 may not be as good a 'driver's car' as (even) the new Impreza, if that's not too important to me, do you think that it's still worth considering the S4?

N.B. I haven't test driven any yet as I want to do so all around the same time, and I'm STILL waiting for my local Subaru dealer to have enough miles on their demonstrator to make the test drive worthwhile!

6 ssk is still about. Although he has had the cat removed and a superchip, he could'nt catch my MY00 with full scooby sport exhaust - can't wait for my unichip now.

By the way he lost his password, thats why he has been a bit quiet of late + the battering he gets from me for annoying everybody!

The Audi S2 I sold still had the original clutch at 90,000 and the engine was bullet proof. With the armour and galvanised body, these are perhaps the three strong points of Audi. All the other ancillaries and interior (poor quality leather) were what let it down.
I agree that the high performance Audis are really motorway and strainght A road cars, mainly as they have been designed for the roads of Germany.
I moved to a Scooby because of the looming costs of running the Audi (I should have sold it back at 70,00 miles - also beacuse of the crash in value of such cars).
I know the clutch will be lucky to last 45,000 miles but then look at the differnece in replacements and labour for the Audi & Scoobies.
I am also finding that DIY on the Scooby is far easier
