Can someone tell me if this is the right filter to fit my 2003 my sti PPP?

Waxacar Green Performance Air Filters

I have been told on another thread that this filter will not cause any problems (I heard many a story about induction kits etc being bad for your car), can someone else confirm this?

Thats where i got mine from mate(my53STi). Peter who owns Waxacar drives a subaru aswell so it will be right. give him a bell if unsure.

that will fit your car alright,just make sure u cut the little luggs off so it sits right in the airbox.

 

Ditto, i've exactly the same car as u and like Dim says make sure you cut the lugs off otherwise it'll not fit in the airbox with the lid on properly

What the life like on these filters?

 

Just as well sticking with the std filter for all the good it will do,probably better filtration as well

 

A cotton filter is far better than the crappy paper one fitted as standard..!

As for life, they should do exactly that, last for life..! Clean and lightly re-oil as recommended, every 12 months or so..!

Nicer sounding induction and turbo spool too..

Green panel filters are fine, i had mine on for 2 years, cleaned/oiled every 6 months and still looked like new when i took it off for an induction kit.

 

Is it actually worth it then?

 

I've got a green panel filter for my classic turbo 2000, and i've noticed these 'bumps' on the edge which makes it sit high but I can still close the air box - am I supposed to cut these off guys so it sits lower???

 

If you have to put Oil onto an Air Filter I would certainly NOT bother!

The only way that you 'may' (and it's a BIG may) see an extra 0.5BHP increase is to allow more air into the engine (less strangulation if you like) - and that means that the air is filtered LESS!

NOT good for the engine and the particles of Oil coat your MAF and render it useless ..... worse, you will be running with a weak mixture and hole a piston.

Do yourselves a favour and fit a standard Subaru filter that the engine and MAF was designed to run with .... if you must play about with it, why not play about where it cannot do any harm?

For the tiny, imagined, increase in BHP it simply is not worth it IMO.

I can't believe I am going to write this, but (here goes), I am starting to think this too, hense......................I agree with PSL!!!!!!!

 

if nothing else it's worth it financialy.

subaru will charge you about £40 for a paper one every 3 years, the green one doesn't need touching (in normal conditions) for easily 50k (at most taping the crap of it every now and again)

the kit costs a tenner and the filter will out last the car

pays for itself after the first 'filter service'

 

What about the £3500 engine rebuild??

Nah, Subaru use a paper filter because it does the job without oil ..... my advice would be to do as Subaru do ..

 

nothing wrong with the paper one (though i don't know what sort of max power you can flow thru it) also nothing wrong with the very lightly oiled green/k&n filters.

won't kill you maf/engines etc IIRC the gunky ITG panel filters were a bit dodgy, certainly finished off my maf on my old classic

Nah, they don't test them ...... not like Subaru have to insist on - when a whole engine is at stake!

so to continue ruining this guys thread...........

you fecking doughnut there aren't lugs to 'snap' off they are part of the rubber construction and because the filter fits loads of cars they provide a snug fit in some airboxes and with the subaru airbox they need trimming off.

by the way subaru don't test them, they just buy them from the same place as loads of other car manufacturers. that's why there are only a limited numbers of different aftermarket sizes out there, there are only a few different sizes of panel filter so they are universal between many makes. like brake pads for example.

so if it makes you sleep at night, subaru test and make their own filters. in reality though someone else tests and makes them. sorry.

 

Well I have the paper one fitted and the engine still went bang on a 54 WRX so what you just quoted is bollocks and has no meaningful or valid point

 

Fitted a paper 1 to my classic think it cost me 12 quid. Looked identical to the subaru 1.

Lasty time i spoke to adam at the clinic he said that they put k&n filters in as standard.

Gunna junk the resonator box and put a green in mine.
