Hi folks

I'm currently considering purchasing a Scoobie. A friend of mine has one and he's in a bit of a "financial bother" and requires a quick sale. TBH I woudn't normally consider this car but it could turn out to be a bargain and I know about good reliabilty etc etc. It could be useful to have around!

It's an 03 Sti - no mods with 28k miles on it - how much would you guys expect to pay for something like that? (It's black/gold wheels)

if its a uk car, i found this on parkers for you fella. if your mates desperate offer him a lot less, and haggle up slightly. will teach him to manage his $$$s better lol.

An older pre 2001 'classic' shaped Impreza, not a newage, post 2001 car. These are prefered by some (including myself) as being the original and the best

Each to their own though.

Offer him £9K and go upto £10.5K, to do him a favour as you're a mate

 

If hes a friend (and you dont want to **** them off too much ), go to a dealer with him and see what they offer him, then offer him a bit more, that way he wont feel that you are ripping him off.

Yeah, your probably right! However, there's nothing wrong with the car - he's had it from new. The moral bit - I know he's in a bit of difficulty and I don't feel comfortable by offering him "silly" money for it. But, I think he has been offered cr*p from a dealer already and probably want's a bit more. He's not my best friend or anything but I've known him long enough to not want to take the p*ss at a time like this.

I would however like the car on a budget!!!

That's a very good idea - He's not yet told me how much he was offered by the dealer, hence, I think he's trying to get me to offer something that's more in his ball park and not have me start at the dealer end of things.

 

See your point, but I already have a classic and original tucked up in the garage, but it's not a scoobie.

without sounding rude to your mate, beggars cant be choosers. hes in this financial trouble, and needs to sell his car. obviously he knows what the dealers has offered. you make him an offer. if he declines, have amaximum amount your prepared to pay. you said your looking at this, not to help your mate out as such, but because its a bargain. if he wants too much, it will not be said bargain anymore, and you may as well either forget about buying a scoob, or buy from somewhere else for the same price.

Yes, I do see where your coming from and you've got the picture spot on in theory. It's just that little bit more complicated when you're actually dealing with this situation.

I would like the car, as you've said because I could find myself with a bargain and it's got a nice low mileage, which tbh is one of the appealing aspects (I drive 100miles round trip a day to work)and I'll probably put a fair few more on it!

 

hope you can afford the fuel bill. im comparison my scoob does around 230 miles to £50....

 

Yeah! I wasn't expecting any favours from the petrol pumps but I would be taking the car on "sporadic days" only, to supplement the runner at the moment. That's still pretty hefty though, I would have thought you would get a bit more than that, but I suppose like most things, It's how you drive it! S**t, that will be me goosed then

 

its funny how much a difference it makes with fuel prices. for me i fill up every week. thats about 50-53 litres of v-power. was 92.9ppl when i bought the scoob in december. now its 99.9ppl. 7p a litre over 50odd litres a week makes a difference. car does about 230-240 to 50 odd litres usually.

We forget about the ppl and the fact it's costs more to fill your tank every feckin time they increase the price. I used to be in the habit of putting in £20or £30 worth of petrol, then stupidly wonder why I wasn't getting as far with it Tax man
