I've just thrown up over the keyboard, what the H*ll are Subaru thinking? Maybe changing their name to Suba-spew........... the new Evo is going to kill the impreza for sure now! Where`s all the aggressive styling that are a mark of the brand? Bigger error ever, ok the impreza was never going to win a Beauty contest, but at least it looked the part. Now just another bland hatch back. Ho dear...........

i love the beast look of the impreza, it looks mean, but this is sooooo just wrong. i hope this is just an option and not a redesign

It is utter pap and I expect that the sales losses will have Subaru into another rethink on design direction within a year!

Don’t get me wrong, I hate it, I really hate it. But if its about sales then currently we don’t account for the same sort of sales seen by the market it looks like their are aiming for!!! i think sales could go up as its something MR Williams @ no. 40 would buy for his wife weekend shopping runs.

dont forget sales were down a lot in the UK last year, maybe they are re-thinking thier target, and its no longer us!

Some good points made there. I have said before on this forum, if sales are down then design another car but under another name.
They need to keep the iconic Impreza shape in some form, not this one.
So designers by all means design an alternative, but please don`t call it an Impreza.

Errr, for someone who doesn't pay too much attention to models, it looks the same as the current version.

Random 'ring footage - corners not in the correct order.

Strange that is shows it at the ring without doing a wheel bearing

Dave there is no Hatch in the current Impreza line up.

I suspect its because the current WRC car isnt doing so well, and they want a Hatch to turn into a WRC gives them soemthing to compete against the other fast Rally cars (of which the EVO isnt one at the moment either)

There's not at lot of cash in the Chav market, Subaru have realised this, hence the new models. Can't blame them, who'd want to be a Burberry.

Subaru are now aiming at a different market segment to increase sales and I guess they will do just that.

The 'Wannabbee Rally Drivers' are not delivering the sales as they are keeping their old cars and modifying them.

The pricing will have to be aggressive for it to succeed - but, it will be using the IMPREZA name and scooping up some Cult Status sales that way.

The One Owner Un-Modded Classic is going to be worth a huge amount of money ..................

That confirms it then, there is no way to make a hatchback attractive and not a boy racers car. If you look at hatchbacks the europeans are doing it better already.

Was recently in Colorado and saw more subarus (including imprezas) there than I have anywhere else. So the US market is probably much bigger than here.

However, there didn't appear to be many hatchbacks of any make.

So can't see where the market is for an impreza hatchback.

These are only the base models. The base model of any car manufacturer looks crap. Let's just wait until the STI arrives before casting any real judgement.

I've said from the start that I like the look of new Impreza and am looking forward to inevtiable Spec C edition. In fact I like all Impreza models.

How do I know, but given the current success and acclaim of the Spec C I think it would be fair to assume that they will make one, after all it their homologation car for PCWRC.

I wouldn't say "lush" but it looks fine to me. Of course, as sensible people on here have already said, it's how it drives that matters.

Since they are aiming to capture more women purchasers, I asked my wife what she thought of the new "base" model as featured in EVO -- "Is that it?! Not agricultural enough"!!! But then we have been Scooby fans since we drove through some of the remotest parts of Australia in the 1980s in a Leone estate. Now that was an agricultural car; changing gear was like stirring cow poo!

Should imagine the STI won't be too long in being released. After all, it will their flagship model and the one that will attract the most attention to the new model.

It is a PR disaster that the STI has not been released first. I know other manufacturers do it this way, but its wrong for Subaru. The standard is to start with the tame models, impress the public with them, and then rekindle interest in your models with a performance version later. That has worked well for some manufacturers for years, it wont for Subarus.

People have an expectation for a Subaru, and I know they are trying to change this, but showing something that is bland and butt ugly is a major mistake. Everyone hates it, they really should be able to work this out. After the first week they should have realised their mistake and immediately started pumping out pics of the STI.

That's a valid point there. As I like the look of the new Impreza I'm not bothered either way, but with all the negative comments so far I think they would fair much better to release pics/info of their 'halo' model sooner.
