Good result Tony. You need to get some pics up of your car, the build now completes the looks. it really is a stunning car...

Thumbs up

Tony I'm very interested in what parts etc you fitted as I have a MY07 STi that I want to mod but the pistons are my concern. Could you PM me with some more detail on makes and prices please.

Thanks

Marc

PS Great Results

465nm ?

Thats about 340 lb/ft torque - seems very low

lb/ft would make sense with what you have had done on a 2.5 - nice figures

Good mods that you have had done though - will make it bullet proof to a large extent and pull like a steam train

I will need to change pistons/rods/turbo in mine at some point, although no-one actually knows the limits of the 06 STi pistons yet despite talk of them being made of chocolate.

Not chocolate, "hypereutherics". I read that Subaru's WRC cars have changed to hypereuteric cast since the forged ones wore out the motors too quickly. (Forged pistons expand more under heat so looser tolerances are used. Those looser tolerances lead to more piston slap.) However, Sti (Subaru or whowever) is claiming that the new hypereuteric cast pistons are approx. 120% stronger.Hypereutectic aluminum pistons are made from an alloy with hi-silicon content of 16% to 18%. Hypereutectic aluminum has 15% less thermal expansion than conventional piston alloys. The silicon reduces heat transfer, allowing the piston to run cooler. The silicon gives the hypereutectic it’s thermal & wear characteristics (improves resistance to scuffs and seizure). As long as the silicon granularity is controlled (kept small) the piston should be stronger than regular cast alloy pistons. However, when granularity increases the mechanical properties of the material drop substantially. I wonder how the pistons will react to overboosted engines and higher combustion chamber temperatures? I just wonder where the real limits of the pistons are, where reliability really starts to drop off, the approximate power level. Could be 350chp, could be 500chp. I wish we knew.

so do i

Would save an expensive unecessary piston/rod replacement if these will cope with up to 500

but who wants to be the one that pushes it just over what they can cope with? ... not me (or at least not intentionally anyway)

Shadower - have you had to run the engine in again?

I think you made a good decision

I am around that figure now 360/400 and the next big step to take it above 400 requires a chunk of money being spent that i cant justify yet. I'd be interested to find out roughly how much it cost you though (pm if you like)

I think that pistons are not problem with new motors (2.5). Problem is because same piece of 2.0 block is raised to 2.5. Aquamist is possible solution or something to reduce overheating.

The liners have been proven to distort at close to 500 bhp from what i remember.

Interesting info on the std pistons though

I thought that was the case when putting 2.5 block to 2.0 heads. It's a different story with 2.5 block and 2.5 heads?

I've seen the car there a couple of times, and Paul was talking about it. And I was admiring the bonnet - if I ever go front mount I want one like that.

I was in the bugeye that arrived while you were settling up on Thursday.

Really Nice

I note the fog light surround air duct - is this going straight to the normal air box or do you have a wing mounted induction kit?

re the FMIC - think that would look lovely sprayed black

Nice job!
