Default Is it cus I'm female!!

Hiya! Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on my situation! I am having problems with my stereo & I took the advise I got from here & went to see someone at Motorspares they were very un-helpfull & looked at me like I was speaking foreign haha! They just said my head unit could be faulty & tried to sell me another one?! Its when you rev the car, think it might have something to do with the alternator, just an annoying whirring noise?! They could be right I might need another head unit but thought I would just check it out incase they were trying to rip me off cus I am female haha! Any ideas?..........................xx

Sounds like you need an inline atenuator (I think they're called). Used to be all the rage in the old days before stereos got better. Any decent car audio place should be able to help.

Essentially the alternator is causing electrical interference to the stereo and it needs something to block/remove that interference, so unlikely to be anything wrong with the stereo unit itself.

Yeah its sounds to me like you have feedback coming through. You need to get one of those mentioned above. Its a case of plugging it in and that should sort it. Inline attennuator sounds about right. Basically a feedback loop thingy. lol

Do you have an amp etc in your car? If so are the power cables and the phono cables tracked together? This can be the cause as well.

As above really, keep power and phonos running down different sides, then you can get an alternator supressor from Halfrauds for £5 or so (takes 2 mins to fit)

I know this is a thick question haha but what are the phono & power cables, which one is which?!! I do have a punch amp & sub woofer. The stereo has some sort of feed back noise that you can here when you rev the engine & stuff. You cant listen to your music quiet cus the noise does your head in haha! I have fitted a little supressor from Halfords onto the alternator but it made nooooo difference!! I'm from Suffolk, anyone no any good places to take it round here? Females always get the wee wee taken out of them but I dont mind its part of the fun of being female haha!! xx

Sounds like a bloody milk float doesn't it. Some of my mates have had this problem many times. The main culpret is when the power cable (big red one from your battery) for your amp are led on the same side of the car next to the phono leads (red and white audio from stereo). So the audio leads are getting interference from the power. Could be a number of other things too though.

If it's something you don't think you can investigate yourself take it to somewhere that specialises in car audio. Definitely not some idiot from Halfrauds who has probably never fitted a stereo in his life

As a general comment: If a place seems unhelpful, take your custom elsewhere; just because you're female dosn't mean you should not be taken seriously as a consumer!!

Its not just because your female, its A) because you have a subaru and they see £££££££ when you turn up and B) because your a female in a subaru and they see even more £££££££££££££ when you turn up.

its taken me 3 years of subaru ownership to understand its mainly the subaru that causes people to try and flog you things you dont really need or to sell you stuff at a marked up price 'because its for a subaru' its think of a price and put a few 0000 on the end!
(sorry rant over! )

This can sometimes happen when there is a difference between the earths of the head unit and the amp.
1st check the head unit is earted properly (usually there's an earth going into the back with the other cables, but there should also be one on the chasis of the head unit).
If the head unit is earthed then you might need to move the earth from it to the same location as the amp, this will make them the same potential and stop the noise.
Attenuator might sort this too though.

Cheers

One of the speaker wires could be touching earth. This will give the same type of sound, check thay havent been trapped when the speakers were installed
