Default 360 Video Streaming, what formats

I've got myself on the Home Server Beta thing Microsoft are running and copied into the Video share .mpg .mpeg .wmv and .divx files but the 360 just says no videos. So what format(s) does it understand? Yes I know I was being optimistic with the divx one

I assume the basic connection is all ok as I can stream music and look at my photos.

TIA

It should work with wmv Pete. I've streamed these from my Vista machines (and XP media center) to the 360 with no problems.

Thanks Iain, thought as much. Is wmv a wrapper like avi was so could contain a dixv encoded video again? Must say all the video formats plus the fact you wrap them in something else too confusing

Perhaps I should use a PS3 <ducks and runs>

Home Server is a new product Microsoft are bringing to the market later this year, does clever backups of clients and file duplication across multiple disks. It's based on SBS 2003 and has Media Player 11 media sharing in it. I can see the Music and Photos being shared just not the video stuff.

Appears a restart of one or both boxes has helped. The 360 now sees the wmv and plays it. It also sees the mpg and mpeg files but refuses to play them.

Hey ho.

I'm pretty sure that wmv is it's own codec (i.e. wmv is wmv, it can't be encoded with divx etc like avi can). On Vista, I just share everything through media player 11, (photos, video etc). You just need to share the library with the xbox (is it listed as an allowed media extender in the properties?).

That's got even less streaming capability than the 360 though

Might have to try this, (I can't see it on on MSDN though). How did you sign up for the beta?

Via Windows Connect, https://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer

Think I heard about it via a TechNet emailing

Edit: I went to a "Vista after Work" talk at MS last week in Reading, fairly useless and they failed to stream their video too from Home Server but they said there will be a release candidate in the next couple of weeks. I guess that will be on MSDN?
