Default Might become 99 STI type R owner (pics)

Hello there,
my first post in this forum for an obvious reason, I might become a 99 STI type R owner.

I live on Mauritius Island and actualy own a 220 hp Toyota Glanza Turbo. I have been active member on toyotagtturbo.com for a long time (under "azerty" name)

I have owned this little car for 6 years now and have spent quite some time working on it, so it will be hard to see her go.

now I have the opportunity to move on an 99 impreza STI type R

question I'm about to ask must have been asked hundred times, but I haven't seen newbee section to dig in, so sorry to ask again.
- could you please tell me things to check before buying hte car?
- is there a full spec sheet about this car on this forum or somewhere else?
- your oppinion about this model and how does it compare to other scoobies ?
- what should I know?
- Subarus doesn't have the best reputation in term of engine reliability, I guess it mainly caused of some guys doing bad engine tuning trying to boost more without working proper fueling/timing and other related things. what should I know that would be specific to subarus boxers engine (as I have a toyota inline turbo background and I'm totaly virgin to boxer turbo engines).
- Mauritius has RON92/95, I understand that the type R has ingnition timing optimized for RON100. would an emanage ultimate a good add on? (I'm used to this unit and have one ready to be fitted)
- if there are URLs related to my basic question, please link me, I'll read where the info is

cheers
Zak Shaker

This advice still stands

https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...ml#post6820945

Type R is basically same as a normal STi, but obviously 3 doors and it also has shorter gearing.

95 RON is to low. You'd need a remap to be safe I'd say.

does the STI non type R has the 6 differencial setting too ? does redline at 8000 rpm too ? does it have intercooler sprayer and special non hydrolic cylindrehead valves ? I thought it was specific to type R

Does the standard ECU can be remaped ? standard plug to a computer? if yes, where to get software? otherwize I could plug in my Emanage Ultimate as I'm quite familiar with it

In order: No, yes, no and not sure (but does have the same forged pistons)

The ECU can be remapped. Not sure of the software.

Yes the STI version has DCCD, red line 7800, yes it has IC water spray and yes it does have solid lifters.
Its the same engine as in other sti's of the same year.

They're both standard on the sti type r and ra. The non-sti versions and the non-type r/ra's don't have them fitted as standard.
