Down to age mainly, younger drivers wont be insured on the higher powered JDM cars until they are older, ie most decent insurance co's wont touch you with a JDM STi until your 30, but for me there was no difference between a JDM and a UK car for insurance, but im older than 30

I was cheaper to insure a 05 Jdm sti than a 05 uk sti ppp

 

I found that a P1 cost around 800.00 to insure compared to 900.00 with a JDM sti classic.

 

you just have to look in the right place. I'm on my third import and would recommend A-plan everytime. Beware of some insurance companies who say they will insure you, and have your make and model in their database but it might not be the exact spec of your car. ie: they might get out of any claim. example: privilage claim they insure the JDM S/tb forester, they will, but their information says that this model is the same spec as the S-turbo. 177bhp (uk) not 240bhp (jdm) and many more differences.

The reason I buy JDM spec is better spec as standard and if you buy second hand, you can get a lower milage car than UK and plus the bodywork wont have been exposed to salt, so less rust.

 

after a wee off looked around for insurance. early v2/v3 sti cheaper to insure than late uk classic for some reason went uk as newer so hopefully less bits to replace.

 

thanks for your help. i will have to make my decition today as i am looking at a black 02 plate uk and a Y reg jap import. both about same price! will get insurance quotes on both i am only 24 so not sure if i can insure the jap model.

 

lol, shocker that for a car that comes off a boat normally with no mileage history

and do agree the JDM come with more toys (this coming from a staunch UK owner!) up to the individual to decide if the inflated price over UK is worth it to them

The insurance forum on here will give you the best quotes in the UK for a JDM. I used to ring round for hours when it came to renewal time, now I just call 2 companies!

JDM's have better Spec than their UK cousins (MY vs MY) & are generally higher BHP as standard & are easier to upgrade the BHP for not much £'s ie 350bhp available for £1400.

there are times i think i might be missing out, but with slightly cheaper insurance and full dealer back up it ticks the boxes for me.

i know specialist servicing can be better and insurance can be found for about the same, but for now it's a bit of piece of mind for me with UK

No insurance company would insure me on my JDM WRX til i was 25. Had to keep it in my garage for 5 months, and i'm a lorry driver!

 

my 370/370 JDM sTI is cheaper to insure than my old uk300!! a-plan and keith michaels arethe places to go for insurance on a jdm.

GL STI's have the most toys.

 

Lifesure are very good for jap imports

 

A couple of years ago i was with A Plan insuring a MY93 WRX, switched mid policy to a MY98 UK and the UK was £400 cheaper (£1000 93 WRX to £600 98 UK). That was for a 28 year old in Manchester with full NCB.

often wondered, does it feel like a hurricane flying thru the car when this is open? (genuine question, not taking the **** by the way)

 

It's fairly breezy, good for when it's warm though as you don't need to turn on the A/C. Need to be careful though if you're giving it some as I'm guessing that it would get damaged at "serious" speeds so I always close it if there are any Evo's around
