Default TPS ( throttle position sensor)

Hi guys and girls

i'm told by my local garage that i have a dodgy throttle position sensor on my car, my94 sti version 1 wagon.

just wondered if these are a generic item throughout the subaru range or are they car and model specific.

also where would i be able to find some information out from a reliable source and about how much pennies am i lookin at to buy one.

any help appreciated

steve

IIRC they're about £250 new from Subaru. Get one from a scrappies. I think the part did vary over the years, so best to look at your old one and try and get the same.

jesus, didnt think they were that pricey, but hey these cars dont usually come cheap i suppose.

thanks for the information, the only problem i have now is trying to find the part number as it doesnt appear to have one on it.

once i get the car back from garage, i'll have a more detailed look.

needs to be a 92~96 TPS sensor.. they changed in 97 to have 3 wire. .the idle signal removed.

HDC subaru, grade A, Essex Subaru breakers all should have one.. or I think Fiestaboy on here had one spare when I last spoke to him.

Most important devices are in the £200-£300 bracket for classics (TPS, MAF pre-99, idle control valve etc). The 'cheap' ones are £100 or more (knock sensor, lambda sensor). High mileage Scoobs are not cheap to maintain regardless of how 'reliable' they are supposed to be - stuff wears out and costs a packet to replace.

you aint kiddin mate, ive had all of the above items and am about to shell out for a tps as well, although my car isnt high mileage, it has only done approx 52000 miles, approx 84000 km. i am steadily working my way through all the expensive stuff so hopefully not to long before the car is up and running properly.

I think it also need to be WRX or STi and not UK as IIRC the UK doesn't have a switch in it....well UK's alway through a switch error when running Jap code, as does the Prodrive UK map (Jap code based).

It shouldn't be a problem, but you may get code 43 when you do a diagnostic check if the UK type is fitted. Doesn't effect how it works.
