Clutch Upgrade 225 - 230mm Issues!

Default Clutch Upgrade 225 - 230mm Issues!

Hi,

I have had a car intoday for a Clutch, the Customer has Supplied his new Clutch and Flywheel.

The New Flywheel is a recon one from API Engines.

and he has bought the 330mm Exeedy clutch kit.

his car had the 225mm clutch on it originally.

the clutch went in put it all back together but found it did not have any gears. eventually took the car apart again, and took a closer look and have found the center plate is fouling the flywheel bolts.

but if i place the 225mm plate on the flywheel it does not foul the bolts.

the customer said he remembers reading about this before and thinks their is an Easy fix for it.

I have looked and cannot see any way around it.

has any one experienced this, or dou you have any idea how to resolve this.

The 230 is Advertised as a Direct replacement / upgrade for a 225mm clutch.

Just to add.

i was not sure the difference, 225 - 230mm clutch.

the center plate has the same Outer diamater as each other, however the 330 has a much larger center area than the 225.

is this right?

should be no issues with switching one to the other............maybe the flywheel face has been machined too much??

try installing the parts on the old flywheel to check??

Tried the new center plate on a unskimmed flywheel, and it still fouls the Bolts.

Spoke to API today and they have come across the issue, it happens in 1 in about 1000. and the Flywheel bolts have to be machined by about 20thou to clear the clutch.

funny that my clutch is a 230mm and ive just gone to fit it and the plate is hitting the flywheel nuts to

Machine the tops off carefully from the existing flywheel bolts and all will be fine. Just make sure to allow some clearance for wear on the clutch so that they don't start rubbing again in 15,000 miles.

Mostly clutch discs wear on the clutch cover side so it is not as critical as it sounds for clearance.

PS we do have 1998 sets of spare bolts if you wishg to go the easy route, we can mail some out. I presume that this is one of our set ups??
