Default Plates Plod ( And His Mates) Can't See

Evening All,

A pal got some stuff from a Yank Site & swears by them.

Apparently there are 2 options, spray stuf and, plastic stick on "photo bender" stuff.

He reckons they are " Cannines Gentilia"

Any one tried this, does it work before I spend even more money on the Scoob?

Thanks

Kind regards

I would avoid this sort of thing unless you want a criminal record.

He showed me some pics of his motor this Weekend. The numberplates looked "OK" straight on.

He showed me picies at a slight angle, no way pedro.

I have just looked at the site, look at the Videos and see what you think?

I'm just passing time until Life on Mars starts!

Crikey is that the time got to GOOO.

I wouldn't want to put it to the test. Might work, but I suspect it actually doesn't! I know someone who used this sort of stuff a couple of years ago, it was supposed to give a 'glare' back when the camera flashed. Needless to say it didn't work at all and he got an SP60.

Just looked at the website. That IS the stuff that my mate used. Its been around a few years. It defintely did not work for him! Maybe it works on US plates (they are pressed out of tin and enameled).

If it`s the stuff that glares when the camera flashes on it surely when the police are flowing you at night there headlights would make your plate glare???

Microstar, he had the plastic cover not the spray.

Have a look at that and tell me what you think.

If it works, how about a group buy?

Life on mars beckons!

Invisible stuff tonight!

Just looked at the site again.

The covers "seem to be" the ones, if they work?

Loook at the Video.

Still not sure myself.

Anyway, to me, the whole point of posting is, to offer info for people to decide yeah or nay.

Great if they work - not so great if they dont..... Luck of the draw - get the sp30 / sp60 etc, plus if you're really lucky, the bonus of "attempting to pervert the course of justice" charge thrown in as well....

But if you get caught using this stuff you will also get the book thrown at you for perverting the casue of justice or summat equally stupid and face a harsher fine than justtaking the 60 quid and 3 points.

edit - oops snap, started writting this then got sidetracked into an argument about patches so took longer than anticipated to submit.

The spray does NOT work. All the lab has to do is look at the negative and do some very basic (and perfectly legal) enhancement and they can read it as clear as daylight. Now you are looking at up to seven years in chokey for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

On a UK plate it would look somewhat suspect as you'd probably see the black surround, something not normal on standard plates. In Canada and the US you do frequently plate covers due, as mentioned by someone else, because our plates are press stamped from metal and thus are prone to rusting. Thus it would be a little less obvious that you have a camera defeating plate on your car.

I do remember seeing a car with a plate on and it was clear that something was not quite right when following it from behind, and I've no doubt the police would pull you over to have a look.

Certainly in Ontario the only fixed speed cameras we have are Red Light Cameras, all others are handheld units or car mounted units, which are probably Laser/Radar based and thus the plate won't help there.

One place it may help is on the 407 highway, which is a toll highway and your plate is photographed when you enter and exit the highway and you are billed for the distance, thus you could avoild paying the toll, which could save you money, then again, if the cops catch you, I don't think they'd be too happy.

Apart from that, the only other reason you would use one here is to avoid red light cameras and unless you don't see the signs or you are a poor driver, there isn't really an excuse to run a red light. Everyone does accidentially do it now and then, but if you're getting a plate then it does make it sound as though you don't think red lights apply to you as you don't want a ticket for constantly jumping them.

Intersting answers.
Note one or two say Plod would throw the book at you for perverting the course of justice.

Did you read about that chap in the paper Yesterday, form as long as your arm, on bail 4 times, comitted Burglary each time.

Bloke followed him home after, he nicked some stuff, called Plod.

CPS decided to give him a suspended for 2 year jail sentence.

What is going on?

If they put as much effort into the other stuff, like selling drugs to kids, etc.

I wouldn't mind, in fact I'd encourage it.

What do you all think?

i'm not sure what they were or who made them but when i bought my old uk300 they had 'funny' plates on. I had no idea until i took a pic of the car with flash and didn't see the number plate in the resulting picture!!

Either way i echo the above - not really worth the risk and have also heard these plates came be overcome by flipping the image into nagative....

Yes they are allowed to enhance the pics, as long as they tell the court and the court can see the originals. If you have a link to said case, I suspect the issue will be that the court was NOT told that the pictures were enhanced - but I wait to be corrected. Use of enhanced pictures in court is common.

Throw some mud at a letter or two ..... it's free and very effective!!

The fine for a dirty numberplate is minimal and no points

I remember reading a test result done with a gatso, the spray does apparently hide plate from flash photography, but not the gatso camera.

Also, if it did work the police would halt the sales, just like they did with the bike plates that folded up at the flick of a switch. They worked, police banned them.
