Default Paint Texture

Hi Folks,

Just a quick question on the paint texture of the doors below the black line I have drawn on the picture shown. I have noticed that the paint below this line on both sides is slightly textured (don't know if right description) but it has like a very slight orange peel effect whereas above the line it is nice and smooth as it should be. I have checked carefully and there are no signs of bodywork damage or re-spraying etc....

I know some car manufactures do this on areas of the bodywork that is more prone to damage from the roads etc, i.e. some of the old mercs used to have this so that stone chips and scratches don't damage or show up as much.

Can you confirm what your paintwork is like on your newage Scoobys? Is it the same smooth finish all through the door or is yours also slightly different below the black line on the picture shown? It is very hard to notice and you have to look at it from different angles at eye level by kneeling down when the sun comes out to notice it, I only noticed it while polishing my car this weekend and giving it a close inspection.

I have just done a search on this and some other peeps with a MY05 STI have noticed this, I guess I was right in thinking that it is just some form of stonechip or corrosion protection

I'm on my 4th Impreza (05STI) and have noticed on all cars that the bottom door paint looks different. Think its got someting to do with protection, rather than a fault.

That is what stonechip is rubberised textured paint which gives a very heavy orange peel finish
