Well the time has come, sold her yesterday for a good price and after serious thought its best i get something more economical like a diesel. Ive got two young girls and a nagging girlfriend and ends must meet, great cars and was proud of it everyday, the only downside is running costs but it was expected. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated on what type of diesel to get around the £3500 mark, not much ..but possibly might stretch slightly further if anyone knows of any quick diesels around....struggling to find which ones do actually pick there feet up and still get good mpg.

Yeah mate, i do quite a bit of travelling and the fuel comsumption was just ridiculous and with me about to be doing slightly more, diesel is my only option.

 

hear what your saying bob, i remember last year leathering it down a slip road only to look in my mirror to see not much of a Golf TDI's bonnet!! it was chipped up to around 200bhp (followed by a big black smoke trail lol). Anyway, i was shocked, he did run out of steam eventually and i left him, but very fast for a dweisel...

prob have to do the same myself in a couple of years...

I know exactly what you are saying mate, mine is going up for sale soon as i have two young boys and are wanting to go further afield and tak more kit with them every time. Think i might have to get a diesel transit by the time they are ten ha ha.
Will miss it like mad when it goes though.

I know what you're saying, but if you want to have some fun then an Audi/ Skoda/ VW/ Seat is surely the way? The 1.9 (and i think there's also a 2.0) TDI's go like rockets, and I'm reliably informed that 60MPG on a motorway run is easy stuff. If you don't mind high-ish miles on it then you could get a real bargin on an Audi or VW.

 

I'd been considering the sale too on and off. I keep driving the car though and changing my mind. Needs must though and the property market keeps calling me closer so let us know what diesels there are.

I got my g/f a golf tdi W reg for 3k. It's a 90 bhp one, a bit gutless, but you can get a gt tdi for a little more with 110 bhp (I've had 2 gt tdis 115 and a 130.) 60 mpg easy on a run, about 45 combined.

 

I currently run a 90bhp Golf S TDI as my everyday car. As standard it is gutless but £500 later and a superchip fitted it's a lot more spirited puts out about 125bhp and now I don't have to plan my overtaking

I've previously had a 130 Gt TDI and that was superchipped, went upto 160BHP!! Only problem was torque steer and getting the power down. Just ordered a 170bhp Audi A3 2.0 TDI S Line hopefully it will be delivered in April, as soon as its run in she'll be of to RGS Motorsport for a superchip and 210bhp!!

As an everyday driver & mile muncher a Golf/Audi TDI can't be beat IMOA, however as a weekend treat there is only one

 

Nice cars them seat leons but price wise ........maybe in a few years. Any other diesel options thats 100bhp +

Have a 130bhp Diesel bora and im selling to buy a scooby STI.
Really looking forward to it. The hunt starts mid march.

If its fuel consumption your after the tdi bora is a great car. Same engines as the golf but cheaper to buy. You can get a good 130bhp one for about 5k. drop down to a 115 and youll save a grand.

I get 49mpg average (mix of short and long journeys) at 65mph on motorway will easily get you 58+

Not as much fun as a scooby though!!

ps im looking for an 03 or 04 sti unmodified.

 

not sure if this will help but i wqs looking at getting a alfa romeo 156 wagon for my missus, they do a 2.4 jtd which is meant to be about 170bhp depending on the year, i looked into the reliability and it seems there actually quite highly rated, cheep as hell too.
