Default **Stolen Cars**

I have noticed on here quite a few imprezas being stolen recently, how are they being stolen? are the standard alarms not adequate enough? or are the theifs breaking in to houses and stealing the keys??

I'd like to know too. From what I have been gathering from most of the threads, it seems the keys are being stolen. I should imagine they are pretty hard to nick without them, if you are just your average scummy opportunist thief.

Both.

That's your answer.

Invest in a disclock and a big dog

dislok rules!!!

New, uk or decently alarmed ones tend to go via key theft.

Older classics, imports or rubbish alarmed ones go by the usual universal key method (dirty great screwdriver).

Not completely true; UK cars and newer models are still prone to theft without keys, due to way the OE alarm is retrofitted.

Expensive aftermarket alarms such as Clifford also have known weaknesses.

So always use a disc-lock, on any model or year Impreza (alternative is Autolock 2000, don't use anything else though; the bars are useless)

I wouldn't count on it as a sole means. Clifford and blackjaxx are notably flawed.

Physical security is the only way.

Retractable security post on the drive, anti ram-raid etc.

The only way they're getting the car is to break in a take the keys - which I sometimes leave locked in a draw at work (if I go away on holiday for exapmle). So even if they did break in they'd have no joy!

Can't agree more, I use a man with a gun

I watched a programme a few years back where an ex-car thief was asked to demonstrate how easy it was to steal a car. The last car he had to steal was a Porsche 595(I Think) with a long string of aftermarket devices fitted and parked in a busy high street; he turned up in overalls and a flat cap with a clipboard under his arm and loaded it onto the back of a flat bed, despite the alarms sounding and no-one even batted an eyelid. 10 minutes and he was away with the car. When asked, people just assumed he was repossessing it.

ATEOTD, if some one is determined enough to nick your car they'll get it, in the majority of cases all the alarms and disk-locks in the world only act as a deterent, and as long as you have a greater deterent than the car parked next to you, they'll nick the other car.
