A friend of mine is very interested in a imprezza but his budget will only alow him 3k
what can he expect to get for this
all comments welcome however blunt they may be
just to put him clearly in the picture

he's been looking at a 1996 p 2.2 16 v vectra super touring 200
but i think he is scared off because i can't find any info on this car

...3k is at the lower end of the scoobie market. That is not to say you cannot find a reasonable car for that price, but its going to be an older model. You also need to remember that the running costs only get more expensive as something gets older, and scoobies do cost more to run (on average) than a Vauxhall all things being equal.

ST 2000 only come in 2ltr and 2.5 with the 2.5 limited numbers off 38 most off then are white but you can get black and red but are very rare oh and there even 1 st2000estate. 2.5 also comes with AP4 pots koni shock and some other bits and bobs

thats the vauxhall coming out lol st2000 6k for a good 1 any less i would run away

 

If he has a budget of only 3k can he afford to run the car is and when things go wrong with it, which as someone else as said, he will be at the bottom end of the market and has to consider to be a real possibility.

My first was a V1 STi which i paid nearly 5k for and still had to throw another 2k at it in the first 12 months in repairs, and general maintenence

 

hi guys a few CORRECT details regarding the vectra st200 and supertouring

the supertouring is different to the st200
the st200 is the one where 44ish were made and had the uprated brakes , suspension and diff.all were 2.5 but it was the gsi 2.5 so different cams to give 192bhp.
also had recaro interior and 17" speedlines side skirts and was also colour Ucoded
was made mainly in white with a few black and red , the estate didnt start out as an st200 but was retrofitted with all the parts by a vauxhall employer who then got it numbered

the supertouring came in 2.0 and 2.5 and was an sri with gsi colourcoded bumper. colour coded rear bumper and side skirts, carbon steering wheel and interior trim. different material on the standard sri seats and 16" white cesareo style alloys. it was the sri 2.5 engine so made around 167 bhp.

supertourings are worth 1500-2500
st200's are worth 4500-6000 all have a plaque on the ashtray givin the build number

My impreza was up for sale at £2800 I hagled down a little. All its needed doing to it is a new o-ring on the power steering pump, a piece of dash trim, new radio as the other one was a japanese one.

I have also spent a bit mor eon tyres and exhaust/ecu etc but nothing that was needed.


In all the car + bits to put it right waas about £3000 including tax for six months!

So they are out there.. but admitedly mine is an auto, not that I was bothered

 

you can pickup bmws pretty cheap like mine for 3000
