ours arent the ultimate, and neither is chucks (lame gearing).

The UK actually feels slow due to gearing, you should sort that.

Plus the ultimate warranty prevents you from correcting its faults.

Besides, the ultimate impreza is the P1. Everyone says so, especially people on the street.

One guy was even dissapointed to hear it was just one of those P22s!

Just to be on topic, I was looking at a standard turbo in lancasters near reading - there was a 22B type UK in the showroom @ just under 40 big ones. <drool> 8-)

Perhaps a little off-topic, but I'm interested in the comment about P1 being too competant (paraphrased) - I'm seriously wondering about buying a std T2000 (97ish) 'cos it's just too dammned good - blindingly fast, but on the test drive, It seemed to require commitment bordering on stupididty to think about needing any driver input/ability beyond turning the wheel to point the bonnet. Full boost mid corner? No problem. What do peeps think? (and why does everyone here seem to have modded their car?)

200 sx, no where near as fast, much less impressive, more fun? but... it's not a scooby. Oh, and no hatchback.

I think the majority of us on this board agree that the UK 22b is the 'ultimate' scooby. My question is, of the 16 UK cars in existance, who are the lucky guys who own them ? Do we know where they all are ?

well if any of you 22B owners don't want them then I have a nice MY94 WRX Wagon that I'd happily do a straight swap with you for!

 

Adam you crack me up every time with that 'lame gearing' arguement.

Mine doesn't ever feel slow...and I don't get caught having to change gear (or stop accelerating) mid corner as often as you lowly import owners
The warranty only really effects engine mods. Suspension and brakes (all standard scoobies weak points) are fair game
I do like type R gearing, but mine is probably better in the real world...

I agree they are both great and there is absolutely no point in deciding on which gearing is the one to choose (mine).

Put it this way my american pal, I have been known to modify my car to the obtain the best possible set up. Have I considered changing to your gearing? (essentially very easy) The answer is no.

And why not? because yours is lame and mine is better.

I'd suggest handing you my keys Adam, but as your car is now so much stronger than mine anyway it'd be pointless. Still with all your extra power you'd be able to pull the UK spec longer gears better, which IMHO would be fantastic.
Maybe you do need to reconsider. Have to admit though, the short jap type r gearing does make for a fantastic drivers car, it is frantic and fun.

Adam, - I found it very difficult to fall in love with my P1, thats not to say that it's a bad car, it is actualy a fantastic car, but it was designed to be a road missile and in my opinon was only truly entertaining at 10 10th, even as mine was with 301 bhp.
Yes you can catch anything across country but it was all a little too easy! Unless that flicks your switch. (I over took every car I could in the 21k I had my car)

Now I've blasted through my first tank in my car, the difference is that I have already started to make a bond (stick with me) with the car, the last time that I felt this was with my intergrale, where as I always felt like a passenger in my P1.

Anyway Adam & chuckster, what is 500rpm between pals?

what did you do to your P1 to get 301bhp?

Mine is standard, and I do agree with what you are saying. My last car was an Elise which needed much more effort than the P1 to get the best out of it. My thinking is that if I can modify my P1 to say around 300bhp then it will be more involving to drive, do you agree?

If you want them to be really involving to drive put on the cheapest/hardest compound tyres you can find, get some really hard suspension and have the geometry set by Barretts motorsport for fun.
You'll get power oversteer on demand and a wild ride. You'll be slower ultimately cross country..but it'd be more fun.

Falling in love with the car is the key. I know what you mean about the P1 and feeling like a passenger. Every time I have bougth a new car I have always thought I would keep it forever. but then I get itchy feet and want a change. This car has not been like that. It truly is special to me and is worh much more to me than its equivalent in money sitting in a bank or whatever.

I immediately paid the life time tracker subscription because I knew I wouldn't part with it. I tend to think about these things when people close to me start changing their cars, but this time that has not happened. I love it more now than I ever did.

My only fear is getting married to someone who suggests politely that i sell my car to move to a bigger house. that is unless I marry michelle, but I cant see that happening.


btw the gearing thing with chuck is a long standing joke. As I said, if either of us rally cared we would probably change it to what we preferred.

chuck and I are the greatest of friends (or so he thinks ) any pisstaking between us is just that.

As regards to P1s with 301bhp, I recall an almost standard P1 (backbox only, I think) putting out 315 at the TINE rolling road day.

 

300 gee gee's is easy from a P1, just pop and give scoobysport about 700 of your fine English pound for there compleat exhurst an filter change, it's the down pipe that makes the difference. Mind you it can be a little loud, I got to 104db at Aulton Park at only 4500rpm!!!! and it will realy p*ss the locals off (if you have any).
It will make it a little more scary to drive, and the trubo will get out of bed sooner, but I've not yet met anyone who could put up with the noise for long. Having said that I've just had it all fitted to the new car!!

On the plus side, no one follows you for long on the motorway, as the lack of a cat + lots of fuel being used is not a nice smell and you go alot faster,,he he.

Don't forget to tell the insurace company though.

Just as you said I "parked it on the drive and just looked at it and smiled to myself" last night as it stood there tinking away the heat.

Adam - sell car for house, no way, my last 5 qiud is on it's way to you. I've just done the opposit, spent house deposit on car,Ha HA can't live for ever.

Know what Adam means about changing never kept a car for more than 2 years, had 3 beemers all variants on 325 motorsports, thought they were the nuts then in 97 my sister got a job at Lancasters and I managed to get a test drive after reading clarkson's few lines and the word "Fanbloodytastic" did it for me, test drive sold me, ordered a MY98 done 61500 miles now only had to change two sidelight bulbs!! Fantastic car, still get a buzz everytime I drive it. Wont change it coz i cant afford too at the moment
