When you guys were looking at buying a Scoob, were you bothered about how many previous owners it had?

 

Both of my Impreza's have been one owner vehicles.

ideally 1, maybe 2 max, unless its reflected in price ov course

ditto to that, would only be worried if a car were a couple of yr old and had over 3 owners, generally dont buy cars with more than 4 owners however-general rule is the less owners the better.

think it doesn't really matter that much as with these cars some will have new owners every 6months as some will not like how much bills are etc. its more history i look for to make sure its been looked after as a car may have 1 owner but never bothered with keeping service intervals etc then you might have a 6 owner car thats been serviced regular and oil changed in between etc.

In that case i wouldn't be interested.
Thats not to say it isn't a good car i just prefer low mileage one owner cars.
I tend to think multiple owners over a short time equals a badly looked after car.

Only buy a 1 owner, standard, dark blue wagon with less than 60K and FSSH.

Generally i would agree with the 'one owner only' statement but me and a friend (from scoobynet) have viewed/test driven the car and checked the history thoroughly and it really does seem like a good buy.

I do intend to keep it for quite a few years and I only cover 4000 miles a year so maybe the inbalance would level itself out? But obviously I'd want as little trouble as possible selling it when the time does come

 

Problem is, the car could been owned by one numpty, or 5 caring owners.

 

Never really bothered about number of owners. My current scoob had 2 previous (MY00) so I'm number 3. All previous owners were SNet members and I used to be able to search for each members posts.

What would worry me more is frequency of owners. 2 or 3 in one year is a big off put. 2 or 3 in seven years would be OK IMO.

 

I know that the guy that owns it at the moment has only had it for 7 months and the guy before that was for about the same

 

3rd owner of mine bought at 26,000miles at 33k syncro etc knackered up on 5th gear.....unlucky or abused who knows.......were a bit pissed off though.Reckon a lots just down to luck.

 

I've been the first owner on all of the ones i've had.

If i were to go for a second hand one then if it hadn't had more than one owner every year or 2 and was a good price then i'd go for it.

 

One owner doesnt mean that the have looked after it well at all. You can easily have many careful owners.

Look at the history. If its all there it doesnt matter how many owners its had. Like chrispurvis100 said, you can easily have one numpty owner.

 

Both mine have been the salemans demo car at 6 weeks old when i bought it so thats two owners in 6 weeks, 3 or 4 at two years old is not too bad any more and its a bit suspicious

 

My car's log book shows two previous owners (MY04) but the first owner was some middle aged man, then the second was his wife (i've no idea why they bothered changing ownership over) and i'm fine with that. Chances are they both drove the car anyway. How many owners it's had doesn't always reflect how many people have driven it.

I'd be more concearned about how many owners the Mrs has had than my cars.

 

Buying a salesmans demo car is a defo thrash case.
Brother inlaw is a salesman and he rags the **** of the cars he gets.
A Subaru salesman once took me out in a WRX on a test drive, from stone cold he nailed it all the way to 90

One Owner up to 3 years old - Two Owners for a 3-6 year old car - 3rd Owner takes it to the knackers yard ............. thats how it should pan out.

A One Owner car tells you that the car has been a brilliant asset to its owner - tie in a genuine reason for sale and you are home and dry with a cracking car.

i'm the 3rd owner of my 05 sti and if i had to sell it on, the next owner would be getting a cared for, well looked after car.

the first owner had it as a company car and when i phoned him up he seemed to know how to look after the car (ran it in as per book instructions, warmed up/cooled down etc)the 2nd owner had it for a month then decided it wasn't quick enough for him and basically seems to change his car every couple of months (he posts on here at times) and again was an enthusiast.

i have also looked after it so i can't see the problem pete?

just like chris says, one owner isn't a guarantee it's been looked after.

do your homework, chat to the previous owners if you can and go from there

 

Mine is 8months old and Im the 2nd owner on mine... but im the only person to have driven my car from new.

The Subaru garage was the first owner, as they registered it along with a load of other cars they bought in some deal they done with IM. 10 miles on the clock when i got in and drove it off the forecourt, and i had to wait for them to make the reg plates before i could pick it up!

I wouldnt worry to much.. providing its in good condition and seems well looked after you should be fine.

Generally a un-modified Newage Impreza STi engine is pretty tough.. cos they run rich as standard.

 

My 03 had 2 owners when i bought it in sept 05 and i am the 3rd, 1st owner went living in Canada, 2nd owner had to sell to buy a house, never had any probs still stay in touch with 2nd owner.
But i purchased from a main dealer, car never been screwed,or taken beyond it's potential.

 

Well, I certainly would NOT become the 4th owner of a 3 year old car ..... I simply wouldn't even look at it - no need - there are plenty about!!

And thats the point isn't it?

Car 1 - One Owner

Car 2 - Three Owners

Everything else being equal Car 1 wins EVERYTIME!

It clearly isn't for you ..... so, go ahead.

It is for lots of people - it's a fear of the unknown you see?

You could maybe understand why one person bought it and couldn't afford to keep it, for whatever reason ...... but, when that number builds up to 3 or 4 in 3 years it is beyond just a simple cost issue ...... it is something else (and that something else could be that it is a troubled car, you do get them!).

However, you take a One Owner, 7 year old car - for example - been driven by the same driver, in the same style and an owner who can afford to treat it properly ..... clearly it has been a rock solid reliable vehicle .... if the reason for sale is genuine, then you have the best pedigree money can buy.

But, you doubt that it is important, and you may get a good one - but ask yourself why it has been handed around like a grenade with the pin pulled out!!

Make sure YOU are not holding it when it goes off!!

 

Chris. FFS ignore what half the people on here say, you should have learnt that by now, just ask Rob! There is not a general rule about number of owners. There are alot of Cynics on here.

Stop worrying about it, the car was ok!
