Default dissapointed...yes i was.

Been after a bug eye for a while now and i had a test drive of one today. i have had a lightly modded classic a couple of years back and i kinda suppose i went today with high expectations...

omg it felt so underpowered. i know its not an sti but it felt like it took light years to pick up from 3rd gear. i floored it in second and there was no surge of boost..like it was only on safe mode. one thing that did concern me was the turbo had a kind of blowing over a bottle top sound when starting to spool up instead of the customary whistle.

seriously put me in 2 frames of mind now to get another impreza as my leon cupra felt so much more powerfull at only 210 bhp. please say this was just a bad runner (car itself was low miles and in very good condition)

I had an MY02 bug WRX a couple of years ago and i too was disapointed.
I went from a VW Golf V6 4 Motion and didn't think the Impreza was much quicker.
Needless to say the WRX lasted less than a year and was replace by a Blob STI PPP which is more like it
I tend to think however that the particular car you were driving was suffering a problem or two as there should still be a kick through 2nd and 3rd.
Nik.

The sound of blowing over a bottle is usually the dump valve leaking - which means the car wasn't at full boost since some was leaking away.

Try another one, but TBH a bog OE bugeye won't be faster than a 210 Leon, very similar power and weight so no real world difference.

Nik.
After driving a P1 i wanted a scoob and ended up with a mint bugeye.
Initially i was happy (for about a week) and soon wanted to get rid for an sti.
I got my03 sti and realised i now had the car i wanted .

My opinion is, get an sti (in any guise) or if funds don't allow search on hear for a well modded wrx .

When the Classic died so did the Impreza!!

The Classic, a late Classic - MY00 - is the NUMBER ONE Impreza you can buy ....... if you can find a UK version which has not been pissed about with!!

They are well worth the search ......... the Bug Eyes are slow, heavy, ugly and unloved.

I don't know about the unsafe ECU, but I'd advocate getting a mint MY99 that has been professionally fooked with to, oh, I don't know, the tune of 320bhp.

Not that I'm biased or anything you understand!!
