Was it an X reg by any chance with the Alcon brakes?
Four doors good, two doors bad ...? At the end of the day, we all take a chance with whatever motor we buy, no matter how well looked after and maintained.
The simple fact is that anyone who appreciates the Scoob and wants to join the clan will take the plunge because they are what they are and everything they stand for, whatever the shape, model, year, mods, mileage etc etc.
So if you want a P1, get a P1. It might go bang, it might go on forever. Whichever it is, you'll love the experience because it's what you want.
Personally, I've had two classic shape UK turbos (95 and 99 models) and now own a P1 and a 95 JDM WRX automatic. All have been excellent cars, but there is that certain something about the P1 that, in my opinion (which is always the one that counts at the end of the day, as it is with every owner) that makes it special.
Is it the Prodrive tweaking? The 2 door styling? The accleration? Compliance over B roads? The collective wisdom of the motoring press that, along with the 22B and RB5, it is the best ever Impreza? The fact that it gets far more looks than my former Scoobs? And so on ad infinitum...
The answer is: it's all of these things. Because it works for me. In the same way a bugeye works for others, Stis for that band of brothers, Spec Cs for that lot, JDMs for whoever.
All anyone can do is go after the model that makes your heart sing the most, the one that you can afford, and the motor that's been well looked after.
And then ENJOY!

He wanted something silly for it 15k or so originally. I don't know if the bottom end had gone at this point as this was several months ago. Richard Skiba is no longer trading so it's a good job you didn't buy it.

I owned one for 3 1/2 years. Best car I've had. If you just like the 2 door bodyshell of the P1 then you should consider a V5/V6 Sti type-R. Probably a better car for more cheapness.
