Hi matt
Welcome to Scoobynet
Have a look at South wales scoobys web site: South Wales Scoobys | Welcome to South Wales Scoobys
I went to a few meets before diciding which Scoob to get?
i opted for a Jdm sti imported via Litchfields, it is due in to southampton in early Jan, Cant wait.
Also look at the Wales section here(SNET)

and remember there are a lot of scoobs that are complete dogs cause people can't afford to maintain the astronomical running costs so skimp when it comes to looking after them. I found my sti8 after looking at no less than 11 and then bought from a dealer for peace of mind.
does your 14.5k include insurance?

No such thing as an Sti8, stop teaching newbies sh1te!
Welcome Matt, for that sort of money your best bet is a MY03-05 Sti. Each MY has improvements over the last so an 05 is your best bet. You may stretch to an 05 on that budget, but it will have to be a private sale.
Only issue is with the rear struts, listen for a knocking at low speed, they are replaced under warranty so not a worry if still covered. Be careful with anything modified, especially if a warranty is required.

Cheers all, i've been looking at a few models (wrx and sti) between 53-54 plates prices from 12995 to 14995 in dealerships - would love a black scooby..and essentially under 20k if i can find one.
The budget is for car only, ive 5 years no claims no points and done a test quote on a sti with a reg used from autotrader ...worked out at just over £600(maximum of 8000 miles) and that was with directline

Why do so many ads etc say version 8 ?
Just curious as i have an MY03 STI and assumed as the dealer told me it was a version 8 it was
Nik.

Hi m8
also try Keith Michaels.
Ask to speak to Gary, he's a top bloke.
PM him from here: https://www.scoobynet.com/member.php?u=39551
Also look in the S/Net Insurance section.
I tried A-plan first and then tried Gary at KM and he saved me £150.

Dealers generally know less about the cars they sale than the trolls that roam this place.
WRX is a standard Turbo Charged Impreza
STi = a Subaru owned tuning division (much like Team RS to Ford) and they stopped using their own version numbers to seperate the STi to the WRX since version 6 (classic shape) although lots of dealers still quote a STi version number for the 'Newage' models.
Basically Imprezas are judged on MY versions now (Model Year).
In the MY05+ version they enhanced the car greatly over the MY03/04 versions (although to the eye they look pretty much the same, with the arch extensions being the only real noticable difference). Essentially the MY05 benefits from a Driver Controlled Centre Differential that also has an 'Auto' mode allowing the car to try to maintain grip by passing power from the front to the rear whilst on the edge. Also the MY05 benefited from the wider track which before was only seen in the Spec C variants (Spec C is essentially a lighter weight track weapon).
Also you get the updated interior in the MY05 so if you can stretch to this... i would recommend it.
Either way, the Blob shape Impreza maintained the more favourable 2.0l engine and regardless of which version providing you choose a good non abused example you will be smiling from ear to ear on a daily basis.
With a JDM you will get a generally better spec car, but be aware that the JDM's have a closer ratio gearbox that on some long journeys can be tiresome when compared to the better suited Type UK Gearbox. (it is possible to change 6th gear to a longer ratio though if required)
Good luck and welcome to SN.

Well getting close to buying one now, ive been doing my bank charges, so ive a lil more in the budget now...im looking up to £17,000 now, should be able to get a 55 plate sti with that sort of cash I hope, went to cardiff subaru, didnt find them particulary helpful unfortunately.

p.s. I think I remember you from the UKHCC - didn't you seriously mod your coupe?
Take it from somoeonne who did it 12 months ago - you will never look back to Hyundai once you have a Scoob.
Yeah thats correct mark still have the coupe, havent really advertised it for sale, but have had a plenty of interest from word of mouth ...abergavenny is only a 40 min drive from me, will have to take a drive....
All the sti's i,e from 04 plate upwards that are around the figure I have in mind havent the high rise spoiler that im looking for, and im not going to mod this vehicle ...well not much anyway :-)

Matt, you could do worse than checking out Motorpoint's MY06's in Newport. I also found Keith Price in Abergavenny more helpful (although CVC have a lot more stock).

Will have another look down there, I pass it each time when im on my way into the station for work, i just found them a lil pricey when comparing them to other subaru dealers on autotrader. Thanks for the advise though
I recommend PCM & a JDM STi. My car came from PCM <<<<<.

yes yes i know im taking my time, just want to find the right one :-)...anyone dealt with holdcroft in staffs ? been on the subaru website they are showing sti's from this company, they just seem a lil cheap for what they are...not that one to complain about making a saving :-)
I'm tempted also by getting a new MY07 after looking at there prices, just dont really want a 2.5, would prefer an 55 or 06 plate 2.0
Ill get there eventually, and im sure you'll all be the first to hear about it
