About 18 months ago I was the lead car at a set traffic lights,when another car pulled up behind.I always try to keep an eye on whats going behind and this particular time the passenger in the car behind got out and aproached my passenger side.Luckily as he got to my passenger door the lights changed so I floored it showing him just how fast a turbo can get to 60 !

Travelling th 11 miles home on my usual route I got passed by a Fiesta with 2 men in it on a 2 lane road, 40mph limit (which I was going - they were not)

They acted as though they were going to turn right but as I passed them, they pulled back in behind me. Thought "bit odd, obviously don't know where they are going" and carried on my journey home (about 4 miles from this point). Waiting at a set of traffic lights with them behind me, I notice their fog lights are on and I can't make out the license plate as they drew up behind me. The blokes were quite young, short hair and didn't seem to be staring at me or anything.

Carry on home, they keep a respectable distance behind. I pull into my estate, they follow. The main estate road is like a giant L shape and we pulled into one end of it. I now thinking "very odd, why weren't they sure of where they were going when I first saw them?" (in Moulton Park for fellow Northamptonians). "I don't like the look of this" so I carried on past my road and they followed. I got right to the end of the L and they were still there!. The road at this end that we turn on to is quite busy so I waited till a suitable Scooby gap appeared, floored it, down on to the dual carridgeway and up to the next village. They didn't follow me onto the dual carridgeway and I took my time before heading home just in cae they were hanging round.

Am I being too suspicious? I thought I was till they did the complete "L" of the estate. There wouldn't be any reason for them to have done that unless they were turning to find out where I was parking up surely?

As a matter of caution I'm stopping round a mates house on the opposite side of town tonight.

It's got me quite spooked I can tell you!

Hmmmm dodgy, but hopefully inocent.

I try and take a different route home most nights. I've only once gone past my house because I thought someone was following me. I too 'booted' it and took the long way back home.

It does spook you. I suppose the only thing you could do is inform the 'Old Bill' to keep any eye out.

I just head to the nearest roundabout and keep going round it. If they follow you head for the nearest Police station. Just hope its not one of your mates in a new car .

Not sure what to think mate but nice to know you are in a car that not many can keep up with, if just for this reason. People follow me alot and I'm sure its just interest in a car they respect, best to be on your gaurd though.

If it were just the one guy in the car I may not have worried to much cause he might have just been admiring it (as much as you can in the dark!) but as there were 2 of them in the car I can only think that they were up to no good

I got followed home once around a year ago and saw the same van twice in the same week very late at night. Later that week by STI value caps had gone ! I saw the same van a few days later and ran down to " have a word" and they went flying off. Not seen them since.

That does actually happen to me once in a while. Couple weeks ago I merged onto the freeway along side a Mustang Cobra, I was in a hury so I punched it to move through the slower traffic. The guy followed me off the freeway. I wasent trying to ditch him, just kept driving and not going home. Eventually he drove allong side and ask me how my car was so fast. And what type it was! Poor guy just wanted to know why he couldn't keep up.

I've been followed when out with a friend before now. Do a few things, like a 'lap' of the block to work out if they really are following you.

You did right in not going near your own house.

Another trick is to get them to follow you out onto a quiet dual carriageway (easier if it's late at night). Drive along completely normally for a bit, then just slow down and stop in the middle of your lane. There's no way in the world they'll wait behind you. They'd be too conspicuous! They should hopefully drive past/

But, if they are still there then drive to the nearest Police station, and as you pull in just keep sounding your horn.

Im extra wary of such things after a friends scoob got pinched from outside his house only 3 miles away, if theres ever a car behind me that i dont recognise i drive on past the house and go round the block, the nice thing is if ever they do seem to follow you round the block (like they did tonight) you can loose pretty much anything with a little right foot action!

To be quite honest if I get folowed I do send them on a wild goose chase and usually to the local police station.........I feel that much more vunerable being a lone female........

I never go back home till I have shaken them off after all they might just want to know where you live so they can assess how to steal your car............

I don't think I have ever been followed - I have a phobia of cars being too close behind me, so I do everything to lose them! Having said that, I have noticed that a lot of people drive up really close and I think thats just to provoke a reaction...and luckily I don't drive in areas of high traffic.

I have a vulnerable sister too she has Downs Syndrome I would ever forgive myself if something happened to her because I led some crazed lunatics to where I live..........

I would rather be safe than sorry, these days you never know what to expect............

 

Sideways had a Escort Cossie a few years ago, and always parked it up in a locked alarmed garage. One night when he was on Holiday, the garage was broken into and they attempted to steal the car.

How did they know the car was there ? They must have followed him home one night, so this DOES happen.

I know if it happens to me, I will simply hand the keys over to them. Not worth being injured or killed trying to stop them stealing or hijacking your car. You can always get another one!!!

You may/may not be aware but Scoobys are targetted by joy riders and professional 'proper' criminals as well, they make great get-away cars, the Police cannot catch them and they make even the most inept get-way driver look like Richard Burns at the wheel.

People have been dragged out of their cars in daylight, in the street, their homes broken into & their families threatened, just to get their cars!

Not paranoia, just careful.

Z75, You're comment was probably joking, but I wouldn't be so complacent if I were you. I was definately followed home by two guys in a modded rover of some kind the other week. Avoided my house completely after confirming I was definately being followed. Guy could've just wanted a race, but he followed me for over 30 miles taking in a very bizarre route!
There is also a team of thieves operating out of Birmingham that drive into Gloucestershire to nick scoobys and use them in robberies.

Some of the people may be following you admiring your car, and maybe even trying to have a chat with you!!

I agree the best way of proving if someone is following you is either keep going around a roundabout, stop, or do a few U-turns!!

If they are, then press out with your right foot Straight to the Police station, sounding your horn on arrival, or keep the local stations number on your mobile and phone them, whilst on the way

definately better safe than sorry and go for a long detour if anyone is following + get their plates if possible. best to keep a pen handy.

Oops, i confess... i followed some Impreza's... you don't see many around here so when i drove a Citroen i followed one or two 'prezas just to see them move around corners and hear that exhaust-rumble. Maybe have a chat with the owner... but then i always lost 'm as my DS my66 overheated in keeping up...
Now, in the Impreza, i'm being followed by the birds everywhere!! Have to wash their sh*t of the car every day

 

Just seems that it would be a lot easier to bribe someone at DVLA to get a list of cars and owners. With all these criminal types about it wouldn't be inconceivable that a susceptible type or 2 might be working down at Swansea.

 

I got followed/chased around Stockport. Lost them though - but I had to drive like a complete maniac to get out of the situation. Didn't know if it was safer to find a back road and park up or on a main road...
