I have a 93 Classic WRX Impreza...I am going to upgrade to the TD05 Turbo with the Z4 ECU. What does the 16G/20G etc mean?? And how do I choose which one I want?!?!?!

So you've decided to upgrade your turbo and keep your z4 then.
A td05 16g is the common one fitted to impreza's.
18g & 20g are bigger versions of the turbo.

If you intend to use a z4 then you will need a td05 16g as this is what a z4 is mapped for.
I think a td05 16g is good for 350bhp, if your goal is more than this then may be you should think about a bigger version.
However this would mean a lot of supporting mods and a mappable ecu.

 

on a my00 uk cud you put a wrx ecu swap or is that not possible.
instead of getting my00 tek3d. ??

 

it would be much better to remap your existing ECU as it will then be specific to your car and the mods you have done to it, thus you will get the best out of what you have, if you just changed the ECU for another (assuming you can use the ECU you speak of) you wont really be any further forward, also once the ECU is unlocked further remaps are much cheaper which is better for you as you increase the mods on your car?

LOL....I was told I had the TD04 and my mate had the TD05 in his STi 555.

Apparently the TD04 is a smaller turbo and kicks in at around 2,500 RPM, whereas the TD05 doesn't kick in till around 4,000 RPM. I know for a fact that mine kicks in earlier that 4k.

A guy at Power Engineering identified my turbo as a TD04 but I did not see the plate so cannot say for sure.
