I'm looking for some collective wisdom...

Just had my 22.5k service and the dealer reckons my front pads have less than 1k left and the disks dont look too good either although they did say they would do the pads on their own as the disks will last a bit longer...

At 130 quid for a set of OE pads fitted I figured I could do this myself and for teh same money get some uprated items. I know people recomend the EBC redstuff, DS2000 and Mintex 1155s but which is best for fast road use only?

Also assuming I do need disks, what ones should I be looking at getting?

Also I assume no special tools are required to get the pads / disk off - Ive done this many times before on other cars but not on the Impreza.

Cheers, Jon.

Had my disks replaced under warrenty at 22.5K so it might be worth pushing your dealer.

Car is a Euro Import and at 18months old I'm well past my 12 months. Although I know they may honour the claim I cant be bothered (Im still witing for a decision on my Clutch replacement whilst 650quid festers on the credit card, sigh) and I'd like to uprate the front end braking a little. Also seems the way to go as the parts are quicker than standard too.

Anyone else have any thoughts on pads / disks they wanna share?
Id have thought people would have stuff to say on things like 'Tarox disks are best' or that 'EBC redstuff pads disintegrated in 5mins' etc..

Just felt my disks and the lip is minimal, starting to think the dealer was scaremongering which is why they climbed down so quickly when I protested the mileage v's wear rate and said they would happily fit just pads. I guess in this day and age they could be sued if they didnt replace them and I had an accident so by default it seems my disks are probably fine... damn dealers, sigh...

I got mine changed cause I a moany ba5tard

I complain about everything

And get lots of things for free in return

Seriously, I got mine done as I'd only had the car 4 months and when I test drove it I actually said the brakes felt a bit spongey and soft. Hence when it went in for its oil change and they told me the discs were shot I ended up getting them done

I had my disks changed under warrenty @ 22.5K service and its just going in for 37.5k service and getting them changed again for prodrive disks. I'm just paying for the difference. The latest disks lasted just 8 months.... surely they should last longer than that - performance car or not. if it's a performance car shouldn't it have performance brakes as standard.
