Entitlements once babys born
Hello
My wife and I are due to have our first child in November this year
Does anyone have any information about what can be claimed or changes to mine and my wifes personal tax circumstances (childcare vouchers, family allowance, changes to tax code or anything like that) once the child is born ? Is there anything else (other than start saving for Uni fees...) that I can take advantage of thats offered from the HMRC ?
I am not looking to sponge, just to claim for whats rightfully mine.
If anyone can help that would be great.
Thanks
Dave

We need more children from people with a good work ethic and from traditional families. Otherwise the only people breeding will not be able to pay into the system to pay for us when we're old!
BTW, you can get child benefit and tax credits. Helps out as your wife will lose a good chunk of her income while she's bringing up the next generation of worker!

I am not looking for anyone else to pay for anything, I am just asking if anyone knows what I (and you) are entitled to as a working taxpaying member of society.
There are lots of things that are rightfully mine in this world, and I want to make sure that I know what they are. I also appreciate you are entitled to an opinion but try engaging brain and reading/thinking before replying.
Many thanks and have a lovely Sunday evening

Either you don't really need it (i.e. you can afford to feed your foetus) in which case you are a bludger.
OR...
You do need it (i.e. you can't afford to feed your foetus) in which case you are scum.
So there we have it.

Hi
We now have a beautiful 11 week old daughter and we get £17.45per week in child benefit. This is given to every child that is born in the uk regardless of your income. We also get family tax credits as our income is just below the threshold provided your gross joint income is below £65,000. yes £65,000 a year !!!!
We get roughly £1,100 a year and anyone can claim this.
I see it as free money basically, and I pay my taxes so I don't feel guilty claiming this money.
To the two people who mentioned not bring children into the world...........it's a shame your parents didn't think the same !

Let's look at the rationale behind breeding benefit shall we... The benefit exists as a means to disuade scum who have had accidental babies from then binning them/starving them as a consequence of not having enough money. It was designed for scum and therefore, by definition, is claimed by scum.

I am Daves wife (the one currently carrying our first child) and have just come to look at my e-mail and found this......I am totally gob smacked and disgusted at the response to this post.
You must be a very bitter person to respond in such a way, and calling myself and my husband scum for deciding to have children and for asking what we are rightfully entitled to claim back from the tax man is just plain wrong......
I am not explaining myself or our situation to you as you obviously would not understand and are not worth the time, but i find your response very upsetting at such a wonderful time.

Well sociopath I think your black/white view of the world is interesting. I take offence to being called scum but to be honest i wont be losing any sleep over it.
Am i right to assume that you will never be filling in a tax return to claim anything back, getting a free bus pass when you are an OAP or getting free prescriptions, and all those other things you are entitled to. Oh and also you will never use NHS doctors or services, and you will pay for everything ?
I am bored of wasting my brain energy on replying to you so this it the last reply i will give you.
Dave

I agree that working people should not be claiming benefits.... tell it to Gordon effin Brown, he's the one that's decided higher rate taxpayers (who by his definition should be well off) can also be benefit claimants
I claimed every penny I could get personally as I see that I get precious little else out of this country yet contribute to a frightening degree. I would much rather just pay less tax and use my own money to bring up my children but that option isn't on the table.
You will be glad to know that we no longer qualify for this benefit tho' as I earn too much
PS to the new parents: don't count your child tax credit chickens too early.... it's double for the kiddies first year, so get ready for the drop when they turn 1!

Working families tax credit is paid out on a sliding scale so you'll get nowt at a combined salary of about 50k
Childcare vouchers can be banked in advance and are deducted at the top line ( as a salary sacrifice ) which is valuable if you pay any 40% tax and are planning to use a nursery/childminder . Ask HR what the firm's policy is.
Child allowance is paid automatically, if you can afford it then bung it in a savings account to offset some of the university tuition fees you may have to spring for....
Inland Revenue website has all the guff. Dole scroungers get plenty. Work for a living , pay your taxes and you'll get sod all back.

Someone needs to breed if the species is to continue (debatable premise) and somebody bred to provide you with the ability to type ****e into this forum so dont go on about paying for your own kids. I suppose all the momeny that would be saved by doing away with the benefits system totally could provide you with lower taxes to spend on more gadgets for your bedroom in your mums house.
We dont get much off the government for ours, family allowance and the Child Tax credit I have given up on, they paid us way to much and then took it back, now I dont fill the form in, not worth having to explain every penny of everything to the Inland Revenue for 50 quid a month, all they are doing is using it as a vehicle to gather information about us, so Jenny Ecalir can F*ck off and shove her claim form up her ****.

What a shame such a normal, inocent thread got turned into a complete bitching match. CONGRATULATIONS Libby and Dave, i hope all goes well for you, do you know if you are having a boy or a girl?
I know that in the area I work, Surestart offer a grant to families onlow income, but unfortunately I dont know any details of the amounts etc, but it may be worth looking into.

My vote would be to cancel all benefits for everyone. Put the money into "Community Projects" anyone getting off their **** to do something to help the community they live in would get some form of payment, "Employed by the Employed" if you will. Not "Slaves" or "Under Class" as such.
Only the truly afflicted would be exempt - in which case they can be cared for by a community project.
Apart from Harlow
