Question sticking transmision (think)

when i took my mates car for mot its a 97 sport the tester failed it on sticking brakes but the brakes are fine ive taken them all off and checked but can you tell me if all scoobys can do this when on a hill if you stop keeping your foot on the clutch are they supposed to hold on their own with no handbrake or footbrake on if you knock it out of gear and take your foot off the clutch the car will roll freeley the car used to be owned by me and it has never had a problem going through mots for the last seven years would it be low transmision fluids or has it just been knackered for all these years any response would be appreciated

No, the car should roll backwards, sounds like the clutch is dragging.
This is the only way the car would be held on a hill, in the way you describe above.

That's the hillholder system coming into operation. Sounds like it's working as it should. Can get some drivers confused though if they don't know how it works.
