Hi all! I have just had a secondhand gearbox fitted,and am having a few problems!
Firstly it has jumped out of first twice,not droping the clutch,but just normal pull away.
Secondly,it's quite noisy when i lift off.
Thirdly, the car shakes when i accelerate in second.
I have a paddle clutch,and the last box i had failed(stuck in second), i was wondering if i may have damaged the clutch pulling away in second to get it to the garage,causing it to judder etc?

tbh, it may have been the paddle clutch which isnt helping the boxs life expectancy....they are a bit too harsh for road use IMO. I was always advised against them. Even now id still prefer an organic clutch.

Just a thought.

(Sorry that doesnt really help you with you questions now, but im just curiosu as to why the paddle was put in, in the first place)

 

Hi neilo,i fitted the paddle clutch as i destroyed a exeedy organic clutch and wanted something that would take the power without costing the earth! It is a pain to drive, and am regreting it. This shouldn't cause it to pop out of gear mind,should it? Also seems strange it only shakes in second. Im in the process of trying to get a replacement exeedy clutch,as i think it shouldn't have failed,and will probably take the paddle one out and burn it!

how much torque is it running? my exedy is holding up quite well given the abuse i give it, which, to be fair is concentrated on track work, althoguh its a daily driver too its not driven hard on the road.

to put it in perspective to yours mines currently running about 355lbft+ and will be upped to 400+ soon on a new turbo which is where i expect it may struggle a little.

If the paddle clutch is a sold centre (no cushion springs,) then that will shatter the box in road use.
A sprung centre paddle is simply harsh but has the same cushion as an ordinary clutch has.

Second box sounds like it was done for at the start?

Im not running silly power,about 300/300, which is why i think there was a fault with the exeedy clutch.
Yeah, there are no springs in the plate.
The box was a 'good' used one, so not a reconditioned box, hopefully be able to sort something with the guys that fit it, as there always very helpfull, as i haven't dumped the clutch/driven it hard, and only done 40 miles with it.

The judder could be down to the spiggot bearing missing from the flywheel, thus allowing the input shaft of the box to vibrate a little too much!

 

The bearing should be ok,i put a new one in about 2 months ago
