Default Fitting a VF28 to Bugeye WRX

I'm thinking of changing my turbo and have been thinking about the Andy F hybrid TD04. However a VF28 may become available but I'm not sure whether it will bolt straight without other mods, or whether I'll need FMIC, bigger injectors, etc to make the most of it.

I've already had a remap, with H&S backbox and uprated fuel pump. I have decat up and down pipes to go on (with a map tweak) so will the VF28 compliment these mods or am I looking at additional pre-req's?

Thanks.

Hey Trap!

unfortunately can't answer your question cos I'm a newbie and my scoob knowledge could be witten on the back of an extremely small ant !!

However, would be intersted to know how much each of your existing mods cost you and how much extra bhp you got from decat and remap respectively. Does it go through the MOT without a pre MOT swap ?

Cheers

VF28 will go straight on no problem.
You will be fine on your standard injectors and intercooler. The VF28 can push more air than the TD04 but not quite enough to max out the other bits.
You should see around 300 - 320BHP running a well mapped 1.3bar

Bugeye WRX intercooler might struggle, you might want to try and find the more efficient STi Jobby

Thanks for the feedback people, let's hope my pay rise announced on Friday is up to scratch.

andy - I haven't fitted the decat pipes yet but with an H&S backbox, straight through centre (no resonator), GREEN panel filter and ecutek3 remap at Powerstation, it made 265bhp and 258lb/ft torque.

Hopefully with the decat up/down pipes it'll make 280+bhp and similar torque.

p.s. - what are the different boost characteristics between the TD04 and VF28? I know the TD04 spools up quickly and runs out of puff at ~6000rpm's but is there likely to be much more lag and much more grunt at top end, etc?

Thanks again.

Hey Trap,

So you have STi performance now then !! I'm guessing you've spent about £1100.

Will it pass it's MOT without the hassle of swapping exhausts over ?

Ta for your earlier resonse by the way.

I fitted a VF24, to my 03 WRX, the only thing I did is get a remap. It runs fine

A Classic MY97-00 Intercooler is fine upto 320BHP on a classic, so the bigger WRX intercooler would be even better.
I know a classic running the WRX intercooler on a 2.5 and it's pushing out 380BHP.

TD04 needs to tail off to about 1bar or less towards the redline.
The VF24/28/29 can paek at 1.4bar and hold 1.2bar to redline. And although the presuure difference doesn't sound much the VF is shifitng more air volume so makes a bigger difference then just a boost figure.
