My WRX -01 makes alot of noise coming from the gearbox during engine breaking, mostly in 3:rd or 2:nd gear. It's worst in 3:rd around 3000rpm. No noise when accelerating, and also no noise when the engine's cold. It's like a grinding/hissing noise almost like a bad bearing. The car has covered 3800km, and the noise has been there since new. I thought it would go away after running it in, but it hasn't. Any ideas?

Guess I'm the only one with bad luck, or Mr Fuji had to much sake and sushi before he assembled my gearbox.

I took the car to a Subaru garage, one of the mechanics took a test ride and said that it's definetily more noise than normal. They will be visited by a Subaru service expert from the importer shortly and then they will check some more on the car. He hinted to me that there where others with the same problem but I got the feeling he wouldn't tell me the whole story. Until it's fixed I will just turn the stereo up and ignore it )

No your not the only one,...I have the problem just in 2nd gear and (from new) and I know 2 or 3 cars overhere that have the same problem,...its just when releasing the throttle the sound is coming up !

I complained to my dealers and to Subaru Holland,...but nothing fixed yet,....it's defenitly NOT OK, but the car performs well and done 13000km since than.

In the USA these problems are also known,....maybe is the solution on his way,.....because there isn't one till know !!

 

Just had mine replaced after 17000 miles as a result of worn bearings in the Diff end, i seem to recall. Crown and pinion I think were mentioned. So you are not alone albeit mine is the MY00. Still I hope yours is within the warranty

Exactly the same prob...more in third on downhill with no peddle....press the gas..it disappears.

Had it from new...and its getting louder...mines a wrx wy01.

had a test drive with the dealer...couldnt find anything????? going for a service this week so we'll see ....
