Am now the proud owner of my first ever scooby .... but have a couple of questions ...

1. Do I really need to lay off the boost for the first 1000 miles? ... So far am finding it impossible, but conflicting opinions received!!!

2. Are there any particular brands of petrol that are better, or can I just put anything in? ... confilcting opinions.




P.S. Why is it that just because I am a girl and blonde people seem to assume it's not my car or that I can't possibly know how to drive it......???!!

If the new ones are the same as a couple of years ago then they have different oil in them up till the first 1000 mile service. If thats the case then yes lay off the boost.

As long as you use at least SUL you should be ok although Optiomax is supposed to be the best for the car........

Please guys dont start a this fuel is better than that thread, its just the way it is

I have to take the car in for an oil change at 1000 miles but the dealer mentioned nothing about laying off the boost, so was uncertain whether it still applied or not ....

SUL it is then for now ... not sure where the nearest place to get Optimax is (is Shell only - yes??), will have to look into it ....

Just keep it under about 4K revs and you will be ok........

Optimax is shell. BP ultimate is ok also, as is the new Tesco ultimate or whatever they call it.

 

We need proof that the car is yours.......

I use bp ultimate.... closest for me... Found Tesc 99ron made it a little juddery in the mornings

He admitted it was a complete shock when they realised I :-

3. had hammered them for a deal

Also I was taught by an advanced driver some tricks so I aint driving round like I dont know what Im doing lol

You'll love it... get ready for attention on the road though... every chav on 4 wheels will have a go... not worth the petrol... lol

Main problem I have is with middle aged men in 'safe' saloons... bmws volvos etc.....

The boy racer types are great.. let me out and everything...

Oh and the women in fiestas on dual carrigeways that have managed to wind it up to 80 and dont want to slow down at all cos it took them a whole week to get it to 80... come up behind me flashing me to get outta the way best to really... havnt got a chance of stopping have they !! Bet the brakes on a fiesta are **** hot

Firstly: Hi

1. Yes , no real need to be religious at keeping it below 3000rpm the odd moment won't do any harm. Reason to do so is to allow the filter to catch any remaining swarf and sand still in the engine from manufacture and allow the bearings to bed in.

2. best thing you can do is read the manual. Seriously - you won't get a good answer here (jap import boys will say Tesco 99 or Optimax, and the skinflints will say 95ron ). It will say what minimum RON fuel your car will run happily on. Which will be 95ron (if its a UK/euro car). Yes you may get some more horses from using super unleaded, but if your pottering round town, you need to question if its worth it (especially when running in )

To answer your questions.....

Warm the car up nicely, i keep mine under 2.5k for the first 5 miles and under 3k for the next 5 miles, also let the engine idle for about 1-2 mins after doing "enthusiastic" driving so the oil can cool the turbo down (plus it stops the oil cooking in the turbo
For the first 1k miles, keep under 4k, dont worry too much, you can still loose your licence as 4k will be enough to exceed the 70 limit a little
Have the car serviced at 1k and the oil replaced with semi synthetic, NOT fully synthetic as the engine parts are still bedding in and fully synthetic would cause a long bed in time, slowly increase the revs by say 500 rpm over the next 50-100 miles, by approximately 1500 miles you should be ok to give the car stick, but note that you wont be getting the full benefit from the car as the engines take a few thousand miles to loosen up (like 10k).
After approximately 5k miles you can add fully synthetic oil if you wish (full oil change).

Petrol....
Optimax does me, just add some different ones to the car and drive around on a tank full to see which you prefer, you may not notice any difference, mine is a JDM STi so is a little more sensitive to what I feed her
