Having a discussion at work, to settle an argument is the evo 6 grs an import.

 

As far as I know, all EVO 6 GSR's are officially imports. But the dealers did import them new and sell them will full support.

The EVO 8 was the first fully approved UK car.

 

My sons Evo IX is certainly an import although bought from a dealer. He had to produce two pieces of evidence of who he was and where he lived. The annoying thing (for me with an STi) is that he does not pay the emissions based rate of road tax!

we had a evo 6 and asked the same question when we first got ours.

 

Whay I want to know is why can't you buy EVO's from car importers / supermarkets like you can Subarus?

 

I think all EVOs and Imprezas are imports since they don't make them anywhere else except Japan.

Remember reading an article about misti getting concerned about grey imports so they started to import cars through their dealer network.

These were not UK 'approved' cars from a rules and regulations point of view.

So their were grey 6's and official import 6's.

All previous models were proper grey imports (like my V)

 

In answer to you question the EVO VI GSR was the first official import that CCC sold through Mitsubishi. I owned one and when I took out my insurance it was not classed as an import. Unlike buying one from an 'Importer'

Ralliart imported the 'official' Evolution 6s but they werent type-approved imports in the sense that they are now. Ralliart also imported FTOs and some VR4s too I believe...
