What's the best way to get rid of it or at least limit it as far as possible? I have a 99T with no mods.

Would a dump valve help? If not, what?

Blimey, tubro lag on a MY99 car!!!

Seriously though, is it a UK/Euro or a Japanese car?

If your car is standard, I'd suggest that you remove the main downpipe cat which is the most restrictive. The difference is incredible and it does help spool up.

So I guess it's the usual suggestions of exhaust and filter.

It's a standard UK car.

Swap the filter? Being a little "un-technical" (if that's even a word!) could you be more specific?

What about a dump valve? Would that help?

What about an induction kit?

ZJS, you shouldn't need to swap the dump vavle until you start running higher boost. Mine was good for circa 18psi.

As Andy said, the best way to get rid of lag is change the downpipe for a cat free unit, and you might also want to try an uprated aie filter. Something like the ITG that Scoobysport sell, they work quite well.

Personally when I picked up my UK MY99 car, I got the garage to:

Change the exhaust for a Scoobysport back box & downpipe, a Magnex centre section (with resonator to keep noise down) and a RamPod induction kit.

With exhausts, choose whichever one you like the sound of! Although bear in mind that Scoobysport, Magnex, Prodrive and many others use 2.5" pipes. While Scoobymania, HKS, Blitz and some others use 3" pipes. You can mix and match most, but not all of them! So double check!

Also there are issues with some induction kits destroying the MAF sensor. I know of failures with Pipercross and Blitz induction kits. K&N seem to be reliable, as does the RamPod which I was running before. If you get a HKS item, make sure it is installed correctly, as MAF failures have occured due to vibrations caused by incorrect fitment.

Either that or look at panel filters, such as the ITG or K&N.

Some people may such that you remove your resonator which is located in your drivers wing, but potentially (it can happen) crap can be thrown up on to your filter! It's your call whether the increased noise and cold air flow is worth that.

A note on dump valves, some of the dump to atmosphere dump valves can cause your car to idle badly and overfuel. Cool if you want flames, not so cool if you have to pay for the fuel bill!! Personally with just a filter and exhaust I wouldn't bother.

I only changed mine as I had issues with my Forge item coping with the levels of boost I was running.

Hope thsi helps

Cheers Andy,

I think I'll stay away from the exhaust system as I can't be arsed swapping it over for a catted version when MOT's due.

I think I'll go with the RamAir Induction though. Is it noisey? Where can the benefits of the RamAir be felt?

An option, that I use to run was:

Scoobysport downpipe and Scoobysport back box. That way you get additional performance and noise, but with the standard centre cat in place, it will pass an MOT if the cat is in good working condion and it's warmed up.

I had this setup on my MY97 UK car, and had it checked to ensure it would pass an MOT. Although it failed on the idle test, it passed the fast idle test with flying colours!

Also as a side issue the RamPod induction kit is nearly twice the price of a K&N 57i!

Cheers
